Henry Surtees Injured In Crash

Was watching the Formula Two before and witnessed a pretty horrible accident. What makes it even worse is he was extracted from the car and taken to hospital by helicopter and there's not been any word on his condition yet. Basically, someone ran wide and hit the barriers and ripped off one of the rear tyres. This then came back across the track infront of the cars and directly came into contact with Henry Surtees' helmet leaving a big black mark. I think he must have been knocked out instantly as he didnt turn into the following corner, head on into a barrier and when the car came to rest, the wheels were still spinning at the back. I've not been able to find any video footage as of yet.

Lets hope with the strength of todays helmets that he has a chance of surviving this one.

You can see the speed of the wheel after it hits his head, go's off like a rocket compared to when it was just bouncing across the track :/

It's very very worrying no news has popped up, looked terrible!! I hope he makes it.

Judging from the video, I'd say that's fatal. And even if it isn't, the injuries sustained will certainly be life-altering. My thoughts are with the Surtees family

He has apparently died in hospital. Couple of F2 drivers and people 'in the know' saying that now.

Hopefully it isn't true, but RIP if it is.

Just so unlucky that you get hit by a flying wheel right on the head. The chance of that is so small

Rest in peace Henry. I was shocked the moment I watched the accident live but still had hope he would survive. What a sad day for F2 and the whole motorsports world.

amazing, just reading his wall on his facebook. on the 2nd he took a 'when will you die' thing

it told him he would die when he was 84, in his sleep. sadly, it was wrong. RIP.
