agree there, it just looks like the ferrari from 04 than a new A1 GP car (credit to Byron for the pic). The old one separated F1 from A1 GP and GP2 chassis was also the same and gave out its own identity. They might as call this F1 World Cup or something

I take it the one on the right is the China livery?

Apart from the front wing endplates, the resemblance is uncanny.

I agree that the core shape is very similar though. Still, if it saves costs to base it on an existing design, that can only be a good thing (unless you want to see something different). Personally, I feel there'll always be an optimum approach to something, and if you make it look different just for the sake of it, then it's a bit pointless. Hell, come on... it could have looked like an IRL car....

You say that like that wasn't the idea behind A1GP in the first place.

Maybe this car will actually post respectable lap times and not understeer like a truck now that its been designed by Ferrari and not a businessman who wanted his series to look cool and hip.

None of us spectators should care how it handles though, that's the drivers' problem. We should be concerned by the spectacle it gives us, and A1GP racing is quite entertaining for me.

Handling doesn't have an effect on the overall show? How long you been watching motorsports mate?

Removing the cronic understeer and easy to drive cars will open up A1GP to finally join the motorsport ladder and appeal to drivers making there way up in the ranks, rather than being that side championship which has very little appeal to drivers.

A1GP has produced "good" (term used loosely) "racing" (term used even more loosely) because of the wide range of driving talent it has. Some good, and some of the worst drivers to grace motorsports - early Team China drives, and Lebanon for example. This car should actually start to attract good drivers, and provide better racing, rather than action which stems from poor driving and silly mistakes. Think of it as a step below GP2, with a more interesting format.

I didn't say that handling doesn't affect the spectacle. If the cars are all the same it just means that they all have the same problem so why not simply re-design parts of the new car?

Such as the chassis? Given the aerodynamics of the current chassis were designed by a man with no engineering background, in order to make the car appear futuristic and different, getting away from that and making a car that is designed specifically for racing is doing exactly what you are saying - fixing the issue by redesigning the problem.

Oh, and the new contract was given to Ferrari, who do not have the legal rights to modify a car designed by another man and built by Lola.
