With 27 cars left to qualify, Montoya is currently 3rd!!!! Pole so far is for Gilliland.

Montoya is in front of 2006 champion Jimmy Johnson, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Bobby Labonte and others.

Juan was 2nd, but David Stremme took it out from him, which means he'll have to make the race on thursday to claim a good place for the race next sunday.

But, thats if he wins.

If I find a way to it, ill try watch the last hour or so...

Well... F1 was born at Silverstone, and the BritishGP used to be a prestigous win, not so much now, but its certainly better than saying winner of ItalianGP or winner of GermanGP imo.

wow, all three evernham cars have had there crew chief's suspended for 2 races, and one for 4 races.

Kasey Kahne in the #9 evernham car has had his crew chief suspended for 4 races because of illegal modifications to the wheel wells. whilest the #19 of sadler and #10 of Scott riggs (both evernham) cars the rear spoiler brackets have been modified, and they have been given 2 race suspension.

DaveEllis has reported that NASCAR apparantly found the illegal mods in the #19 and #10 cars and allowed them to run in qualifying, then penalised them.

Matt kenseth in the #17 Roush Racing entry has had his crew chief Robby Reiser Suspended for 4 weeks, due to wheel well modifications, the same as kahnes.

Michael Waltrip driving the #55 Michael Waltrip racing car has been found to have illegal modifications, but no news on it yet.

for more news goto theracingline.net... ellis will post when he knows.

And for those in the UK, the Daytona 500 is on Five at 12:10am Sunday night (or Monday morning) for those who wish to watch it. And you should, as it's one of the premier racing events of the year. Pretty awesome watching a train of 40+ cars travelling at ~200mph. Up there with the Indy 500 (when it was good), the Monaco GP and Le Mans. Or in other words a must watch for any true motorsports fan. Or just see how Monty goes. :)

Anyway, I like how Digiguide describes NASCAR. :D

Quote

NASCAR on Five with all the action from one of the most famous races in motorsport. The Daytona 500 is a legendary race that has it roots back in the days of Prohibition, when moonshine runners raced their cars on the Daytona beach. It is actually a form of stock car racing where drivers can legally shunt each other out of the way at speeds of 150mph plus. It is now the most popular motorsport in America and is shown in 150 countries worldwide, with the most technologically advanced race coverage on the planet. Jonathan Green presents the race, the drivers, the pageantry and all the drama from Florida.

Yeah - it's fine to barge people out of the way. Sure you're not mixing this one up with BTCC guys? ;)

DaveEllis has reported that NASCAR apparantly found the illegal mods in the #19 and #10 cars and allowed them to run in qualifying, then penalised them.

A correction to this. SpeedTV reported this and it wasnt true.

#19 and #10 had holes drilled in the rear bodywork to filter air out from under the car. It was discovered during prequalifying inspection and had to be changed before they went on track. NASCAR didnt report it until later, but they ran the cars legally during qualifying.

Kahne and Kenseth both had holes in the wheel well to bleed air out to cool the tyres.

[theracingline.net]

Michael Waltrip was handed the biggest fine and punishment in NASCAR history due to a fuel additive. Whilst NASCAR has refused to state was the additive is, a NASCAR official, under the condition of hsi name being kept a secret stated it was a modification of what basicly was jet fuel. Waltrip had his primary car impounded and his secondary car confenscated. He ran the qualifying races in his team mates backup car.

[theracingline.net]

Jeff Gordon has been sent to the back of the grid for failing post qualifying inspection. It was an accident, and therefore no money or point were deducted from the team/driver. Basicly the left rear shock had failed at the beging on the race due to being mounted incorrectly. The car therefore was 1 inch too low.

[theracingline.net]

Worst week in NASCAR history for legal issues. Complete farce that so many top teams have had crew chiefs banned.

Thought it was pretty average, or even poor up until the last 60 or so laps. From then on it was just awesome :D

Only in NASCAR will the win be decided by 0.02 seconds, while a car crosses the line on its roof. Sweet :D

Without a doubt one of the dullest races for the first 120ish laps, but one of the best for the final 50-60 laps. Just an amazing end to the race,.
