Thrustmaster T300 RS

Hi everyone,
After a few years I've now returned to GP3 and have bought a refurbed xp computer to run it on.
I've tried to set up my wheel today, which is a Thrustmaster T300 RS GT and am having a problem with the pedals (everything else works fine). The pedals register as buttons when I press them; they don't register on any of the axis when I try to calibrate it.
Has anyone encountered this before and do you have a workaround please? I have downloaded the drivers from Thrustmaster and have installed them but this doesn't seem to help much (also when it detects the wheel it says that it is a T500 (which it is not)).
