What´s beyond 25,5 fps in GP3(2000)

Dear community,

since 25 years I had a dream: a computer that handles Crammonds algorythms at all its best and that means I´m trying since 1991.
-now I can tell, it partially happend with GP3-2000 last weekend -a cool guy donated his "old, worn out" gaming-machine (a true gp3-monster from my point of view) and I decided to test it under hardest circumstances. These tests took me a whole weekend and even lead me into fields like driving my (HW)monitor with refreshrates like 63,8Hz etc..

HW Specs:
- Mainboard: "EVGA 780i SLI" - FSB 1333 Hz
- CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 - 2,4GHz -> overclocked 3,00 GHz
- Video: NVidia GTX9800+ [Graphics Clock 738MHz / Processor Clock 1836MHz / Memory Clock 1100MHz / Memory 512 MB]
- Audio: SBLive24 / RealtekHD

Game environment:
- WinXP-32bit
- GP3-2000
- gpxpatch 4.44 by SDI
- GP3-fps-Changer by Matti Laitinen

Testing environment:
- As I know all tracks stress the system in a different way so I decided to take several different ones (originals & modded & belini-tracks).
- optimized WindowsXP and the video-/sound/chipset-driver to optimum performance
- all gpxpatch-features enabled (tested RCR-distances: 3480-15000 -> set 5000 as good compromise)
- all video- and sound-features enabled inside GP3
- Screen Resolution: 1280x1024
- FPS rates: original 25,5 (maximum) / patched 28,3 - 85 FPS (with GP3-fps-changer)
- processor occupancy (PO) in % used for comparison (FRAPS to crosscheck)
- tested under both weather-conditions (wet/dry)

Test target:
- get GP3 to run as fast and smooth as possible. Find out the highest framerate this game can go.

Results - original 25,5fps:
- overall ingame "wet"-weather-conditions leads to 33-50% more PO
- a well overpowered PC from 2008 finaly manages it to serv the game with the highest detailed Belini-tracks at full rain-conditions and a PO close below 100% at racestarts (25,5 fps)
- PO (100% rain / 25,5 fps at 1280x1024 / racestart at the back of the grid / onboard-cam / RCR-Distance 5000):
-> Melbourne-Belini: 80-100%
-> SearsPoint_Zieli_update: 66%
-> Melbourne-Original: 33%

Results beyond 25,5 fps:
- sadly the GP3-fps-changer-Tool mislead the AI-cars to crash into each other when braking into corners, especially at its lower served values starting with 28,3 fps.
This unwanted effect is lowering when increasing(!) the FPS step by step up to 85.
- laptimes of AI are slightly increasing with every fps-step (~1 sec/lap between 25,5 and 85 fps)
- occuring picture-"micro-freezings" at 28,3 fps which get lesser visible at each fps-step upwards. and are almost gone at 85 fps, but still there

Results at Maximum 85fps:
- PO (100% rain / 85 fps at 1280x1024 / racestart at the back of the grid / onboard-cam / RCR-Distance 5000):
-> Melbourne-Belini: 166%
-> SearsPoint_Zieli_update: 100-133%
-> Melbourne-Original: 66%

Conclusion:
Finaly, I can imagine how GP3 looks at 85fps -incredible, I expected nothing else. But this is only possible under "dry" weather-conditions, not at "rainy". And because of micro-freezings and crashing AI-cars (->changing of physics) I think it only makes sence to play GP3 at 25,5 fps. By using GP3-fps-Changer these negative side-effects are only decreasing to acceptable values at the specific framerate of 85 fps!

Warning:
Once I´ve seen 85 fps, it´s almost impossible for me to play at 25,5 again, serious!

Sideeffect:
A higher framerate results in more precise car-controlling, especially when using steeringwheels or gamepads. This effect is very important for playing at high level.

Wish:
A genious brain, that patches the game to 60,0 fps

cheerz,
pirx

That is precisely why I wont get rid of my computer. Ill upgrade to a laptop, but Im keeping my HP. just for game play. ICR2 NASCAR 3 and GP3 work best on it. I have downloaded hours of carsets tracks, and Mods for all three games. A lot of what i have you can't find anymore. So Im staying put with windows XP. Heck my cell phone has more memory than my desktop. Tried playing racing games on my phone. Made me crosseyed. hot
