GP3 on XP in VirtualBox

I installed GP3 on Windows XP in VirtualBox

Everything went fine—the game installed and ran without issues—but the only problem is that it's running very slowly


Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

I don't know how slow it is in your case, but I think you'll never get saddisfied with a full OS-emulation like VirtualBox, Parallels or others. I tried many of them. A dedicated wrapper that focusses on a few particular services than to serve a full OS is way better. Like dgvoodo or dxwnd.

Go into the graphics settings and select software 3d, the PO should never exceed 100%. Press O in game to check the processor load

Like others have said, you'll never find success with GP3 inside a virtual machine.

I added a Win XP partition to have it dedicated to GP3 / GP4. Best way to get around this, works perfectly.

3D acceleration for windowsXP was discontinued some time ago by virtualbox, so either you use windows7 or above, or you will need to use an older version of virtualbox that still supports 3D.
I don't know if it will work well, but for sure newest versions won't.

The Guest Additions driver for WinXP Guests is for the vboxvga vGPU only. The last build of Virtual Box that provided 3D acceleration with the vboxvga vGPU was Virtual Box 6.0.x, which is no longer supported.

Do you have any experience with Linux? It runs almost like butter using the internal Intel graphics chip with some sort of vulkan direct3d translation layer in the background. The only time it slows down is in the start but if you didn't hold down the PO button you'd probably not even notice it. I've seen it slow down way worse on windows with dgvoodoo. If you have a vulkan compatible GPU it would probably run like silk but I haven't tried it yet with a proper graphics card.

Apparently vulkan also works on windows but I can't really say anything about it
