F1 2007 now added. Go to first post.

Hi is there a 1997 season mod - i didnt see one there but there was a suggestion in another post that they might be one.
I haven't made an F1 1997 at this point. I have made 1996 and 1998. I expect to get around to 1997 in 2026 or 2027.
hi - i have been trying the 98 mod - but i just cannot get good graphics settings results. Firstly i cant get the game to use the Nvidia card, - unless i use DGvoodoo, but then its performance in the game is quite quite slow and prone to crashing.

What are the best settings to use
somethign i have found with this mod - is that the text in a race - the driver names that come up on screen are all garbled - most are, a couple names seem okay but the others are just squiggles and bits missing. I installed at the fonts in the game folder, but i the garbage text aspect i cant figure out a fix for
urgh i think just modding wiht GP3 in general is too unstable and finicky, best just to stick with GP2 and GP4
Sorry to hear that you are having problems.
Its not a solution for everyone, but I use a 2007 Thinkpad loaded with Windows 7 which gets around these problems.
However, when that laptop finally breaks I will have to try to make them work on a modern laptop with Windows 10/11.
Not looking forward to that!

Hi
its all good - i think its work right for me now - using DGvoodoo in windows 11 is giving me a stable and playable experience - is the HUD informationi nthe drivers seat though supposed to be sitting outside of any kind of digital screens? -- i assume it has to as there doesnt appear to be anywhere on the steering wheel or behind it for that information to go.

also - the purple line inside the front tyres issues is present- hwo do i fix this?
okay i fixed the purple tyre texture error using the file in the downloads that corrects the texture alignment.

I am having quite some difficulty trying to race around monaco though - i just cannot seem to get the car to turn sharply enough and with enough momentum to clear lowes hairpin and rascasse, and i feel like i need to slow down way too early to clear nouvelle chicane

It would help me to be able to turn on "F8" steering help, being that i am using my keyboard controls( i always prefer keyboard controls) however this option is blocked out always - why is that? can i change this?

or otherwise can you tell me how do i get better turning in monaco -- what is the ideal setup for monaco? i would like to know how active differential settings can impact things.
Okay i am now wondering if this way in which the cockpit information looks in this mod is maybe not working right - because when i am in the pits, i cant access the tyre menu - this cant be right can it? or is there some other setting you have in place for this in this mod?. I cant even view the pit menu, but i know if i push the brake key, the option will go to car setup, so that aspect is not a problem, but not being able to view any of the tyre informaiton is harder to work with

About steering wheels in mods from 1994 onwards ... I wanted to import highly accurate looking steering wheels unique to each team. It was not possible to then have all the lights, LEDs etc positioned in the right places if you have more than one wheel, so I chose to have a generic overlay with this information. Its not ideal, but easy to get used to. I suppose it is like a HUD, but that was not the motivation.

About tyres and settings changes in cockpit mode ... because I have gotten rid of the graphic file with text on that is used to show that information, you have to exit cockpit and change setup there. I did this because the graphic file interfered with the new steering wheel files as was distracting.
Hi agathosdaimon93

BTW can you tell me what kind of laptop with what kind of specifications you are using?
As I said, I use an old laptop with Windows 7 but that might not be viable in the long term. I did buy a newer Thinkpad but could never get it working even with dgvoodoo. It might be helpful to take a note and copy your equipment setup in the future, seeing as you have managed to get it working.

Cheers!

thansk for your reply - i have an Acer NITRO 5 gaming laptop i got in late 2022. Its serving me well - it has both an intel and nvidia graphics options. The nvidia graphics card being the optimus type wont natively recognise gp3,... but if i run the game using Dgvoodoo, then the nvidia card which is more powerful does engage and yes the overall performnce for this mod and gp universe is pretty good now.

When you say i need to exit the cockpit to make tyre changes, do you mena i need to leave the race altogether or can i see the screen somehow from some other screen in a race

What i am meaning is that there is that screen where you select which of the compounds you will use for your practice/qualifying etc - if i leave these altogether then lose them for the race weekend. If i leave qualifying prematurely i lose the position. So can you just tell me specifically what i need to do?

Hi there! I have a corrected graphics file that if you put into the right folder should fix your problems. email me at proethenbaugh@hotmail.co.uk and I will send it to you with instructions.
thanks , i sent you an email. Is this to fix the missing tyre selection hud display?
File sent. It will fix the cockpit menu issue.
Cheers!
when you make 1997 season one day - you have gotta have some of these great songs from that year:

Bitter Sweet Symphony by the Verve
Song 2 by Blur
Touch Peel and Stand by Days of the New
Breathe by Prodigy
Discotheque by U2
Some great music choices there!
Makes me want to start a 1997 megapatch sooner!
HI Elio - i decided to try out the 1989 mod today and it all seems okay (i had to fix the purple tire stripe issue also) but the steering wheel and drivers hands are out of alignment and off center - see the image attached. How can i fix this?

I think that is because of the screen resolution you have which is a widescreen which stretches the view. These cockpit overlays were designed for a resolution of 1024 x 768 which is a squarer shape. If dgvoodoo will let you choose the screen resolution, perhaps putting black bars down the two sides, that would fix it. Re-setting the cockpit panels to compensate for wide letterbox shape would be a huge job, which I could not do anyway as my laptop has that squarer shape that the game was designed for in the first place.
great info - that fixed the issue, i forced it all into 1024x768 and now it all looks great - again another awesome mod! did you recreate the tracks yourself? interesting to see how monaco's layout its corners get tweaked with every season

oh and if you get around to doing 1993 - i recommend the 'Faces' by T-Square - the riff of that song will never leave your head and plus their music has always been associated with F1 and Aryton Senna too
