Grand Prix 3 keeps crashing in the rain?!

Hey guys,
I hope it's okay if I open a thread now and here.
My Grand Prix 3 keeps crashing, every time I'm in a rain race. It's annoying and it really just pisses me off because I feel like I can drive well in the rain.
Anyway, it always crashes when I start a rain race as part of a championship, sometimes when I'm in a race and rain starts pouring down.

I don't know what to do and the gpxpatch log is too big for my editor, so I can't even see it.

My specs:
Windows 8.1 64bit
Intel i3 Quad-core 2.4 Ghz
8GB Ram
GP3 v1.13 + noCD, no mods. All vanilla.
GPXPatch 4.44, with only GPxSound enabled.

I really hope someone knows something.. it's driving me insane!

I do not know if I can help you, because I still use win7 64bits and sometimes gp3 drops. I never used gp3 in win8, but try to gpx and gp3v put win98 properties, here in win7 I managed to run better.

If you mean put GP3.exe in compatibility mode, I tried that already on a previous install and it still did that. It even crashed while shutting down the game in compatibility mode. Plus, I don't think that's too necessary as it says GPxPatch sorts out compatibility for GP3 and GP32k anyways. But thanks

I think the problem is caused by windows 8.
But have you tried my work? Gp3 2018?

I've only been using the vanilla install plus the patch 1.13. I've been very cautious with any modifications because I want to play the game the way it was made. But i'll check it out.

this error could not depend on operation systems.
If the game crashes in the rain ( and run properly in dry conditions ), it can be because of wrong tyre file or jam settings in tyre jam files.
I had such a trouble when set there wrong file trying various types of it .
If its the same event, you need to check in GpxPatch what tyres attached and put the right ones ( or, maybe, it needs tocheck jam's ID -
as far as I remember, jam's ID for type 1 - slow and fast- is 820 and 821, type 2 - 822 and 823 ). Somewhere between them set the wrong file:
similar problem could be with the tread jams.

By the way, I have another problem with the rain - the game ceased to save the wet conditions as it did before - does anybody know why it may happen?

But he said he used vanilla game with just necessary patches. It shouldn't be a file issue either.

To OP, I suspect you installed the game in Program Files, which is not a good idea because it doesn't give you administrative rights. Try to install in a folder out of Program Files (C:\Games\Gp3 , C:\GrandPrix3 , D:\GrandPrix3 , whatever you'd like) and check if it solves your issue.

I forgot to mention in the OP that I have all my games (except Steam) installed in a folder "C:\Games", so my GP3 is in "C:\Games\Grand Prix 3"
I had such file permission issues with other games so I decided to install all games in that Games folder.

I'm afraid I can't be a good help for you, sorry. But you should put your crash log online. Pastebin is a good place to do so, and add a link in your first post, so people may have a better idea and a clue on how to help you.

I'll try to provoke a crash once but when it asks to be opened, the file is, no matter how low the verbosity is set, always over 1 GB. A text file, over 1 GB so no editor can really..open it. But I'll try to provoke a crash

1 GB is not a normal size for a crash log. Not even a 1 MB file is.
There's something else going wrong I think.

Well if I start the game in debug mode via GPxPatch, it literally logs everything I do, from literally starting the game, to every second of me driving..

Okay well I've tried the scenario "Non-Championship Race" at Hockenheim. 30% race length, no quali. 99% chance of rain. Crashed to desktop half-way through Ostkurve on lap 1. Crash dump file was "only" 50 MB. Log verbosity "low", Log assertions checked.

I could not upload it anywhere except file-upload because it's literally a 46MB text file, but I hope it's not a bad thing. Hope it'll help.
