HW Mode in VirtualBox?

This is going to be a bit of an obscure question, so it's unlikely anyone has accomplished this - but here goes.

I run GP3 in an XP Oracle VM VirtualBox, which suits me (work laptop).
It runs absolutely perfectly, 10% PO etc.

However I'm looking to enable HW mode, instead of SW, so I can use GPxPatch.
After already looking on the VirtualBox forums I couldn't find a way to do this, I appear to have the correct settings (3D support enabled). And I have also installed nGlide wrapper in an attempt to "trick" the GP3 install into seeing a graphics card.

However the only render device I have in graphics settings is: "ßmA"

Any advice appreciated.
It might be impossible but worth a shot.
