My computer has suddely stopped playing sounds add gives this error message when i try to play MP3s in Media Player

There is no sound card
You either do not have a sound card installed on your computer or it is not functioning properly. If you do not have a sound card installed, you must install one before you can listen to audio in a digital media file. If you do have a sound card installed, refer to its documentation to troubleshoot the problem.

Error ID = 0x80040256, Remedy ID = 0x00000000

BUT, the odd thing is when this error comes up i get the exlimation sound, also sound when logging in and out of windows and appropriate MSN messanger sounds, so the card is there and working, but i cant play games with sound or any digital audios or anything, like MP3s, waves etc

Help?

Sorry cant help, but i can cheer you up with some microsoft "bashing"
Some of these are completely unfunny though:

"Win95 not found, [P]arty, [C]elebrate, [D]rink ?"

"Windows 95 /n./ 32 bit extensions and a graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprocessor, written by a 2 bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition."

"I wonder what Jesus would do if He had to reload Windows 95 for the eighth time today ?"

Have you tried another mp3 player? RealJukebox is great assuming you have plenty of RAM (and I know you do). WMP is horrible, anyway.

I have fixed the problem. I tried reinstalling the sound card in XP and it dodnt work, so went into 98 and teh card worked, went back into XP and reisntalled the card and it works ok now.

I use Winamp cos you can skin it and it looks smart with the Bizkit skins i have, can you skin realjutebox?

heehee, thanx Chris :D

I searched on google for realjukebox and the best page was this

I went there and this bitty here bugged me "$9.95". Right, i could pay for it or use Winamp, FreeAmp, Media Player and a whole bunch of others for free, wheres the upside to it?

And this is one of my favourites:

Customer: "I'm running Windows '98"

Tech: "Yes."

Customer: "My computer isn't working now."

Tech: "Yes, you said that."

Hence: save up for own PC! :D

And as for RealJukebox, well, it's free. They've integrated RealPlayer and the Jukebox so that it's just RealOne now. And it's great if you have lots of RAM.

I'd use WinAmp, but it plays my cds too quickly. And so i get lots of static.

Im not actaully saving up for my own PC but most of this one is mine, i purchased all the parts, so sooner or later (preferably sooner) all of it will be mine. All i need to but is - HD, Mother-board/processor and graphics card for it to be mine :), i have already paid for the rest of it :D
