If you have pink or purple stripes on the tyres, download this zip. Copy the contents inside the main Grand Prix 3 folder and replace files when prompted. Right click, Save As... on the following link:

This fix correctly re-aligns the treads, which are actually in the wrong place in the BMP. Normally people recommend you just paint the purple bits black however that was not a good enough fix for me.

I'm aware GP3 is essentially a dead and buried game but it doesn't have to be. Not finding fixes to simple problems that have been around since the game came out has done my head in!

Eh not really, if you use period-correct hardware this problem doesn't exist. This is caused by newer hardware not applying the texture properly.

Though I suppose this is as close enough to a real fix for modern hardware.

More than alive. I have all modern racing titles but i re-installed GP3 and i'm having same fun i had back in late 90's, or early coz i used to play World Circuit since it came out.
By the way, where can i get 1998 default tracks updated?

THANKS!

here are some single tracks, a trackpack 1998 and a graphic update for the original tracks 1998, so you can choose which files you want to install

Does anyone still have this purple ring fix file for GP3? Any chance of a download link? Thanks! :-)

Hi guys,

Thanks to PTRacer, you helped me a lot bringing the gorgeous Grand Prix 3 back to life on my WinXP Retro-PC!

I have created my own and in my eyes improved version, because yours was lacking the Bridgestone writing in cockpit view, which I wanted to have.

I have based this on the original files, shifted the tyre surfaces and the sidewalls by 11 pixels and closed the purple area in between by copying a bit of the textures. Works fine for me.

In case some GP3 enthusiast is interested:

Enjoy!
