This has worked so far as i can tell, except that the rear view mirrors in the cockpits dont seem to be aligned with the mirror so the view has some colour bars above it - i dont know, maybe this was intentional? If not is there a way i can tweak the size and position of the image in the rear view side mirrors.

i am not using the x86gp2 mod because that version still does not allow one to change the cockpit, which is fine for some but i like the cockpit to reflect the era

Grand prix 2 Mem edit (safety car + slipstream)

Hey, I finally put together something I’ve wanted for ages, memory editing tool for Grand Prix 2. GP2Mem a windows tool that hooks into Geoff Crammond’s Grand Prix 2 and lets you view/edit a bunch of live car values while the game is running. And the fun bit the first SC for GP2 (as far as I know) is now available. It’s implemented as a built-in custom script that manages the pack by controlling speed/spacing during an SC period. There’s also a slipstream script (boosts engine power when you’re tucked in behind another car).

Project/downloads /source:
[github.com]

How to use it

Start GP2 via DOSBox or x86GP2_inline.exe (GP2Mem supports both)
Run GP2Mem and make sure the process name matches (default is x86GP2_inline.exe)
Start a Quickrace
While you’re on the grid and the AI are revving, click Find Base (Grid) in GP2Mem so it can find the live car structs in memory
After it finds the base, you can exit the quickrace and start your real race/practice/quali
You’ll usually need to redo the “Find Base (Grid)” step each time you restart the game that’s on purpose so it stays compatible across older GP2 builds (DOSBox) and older x86 versions

What you can do in the tool:
Overview table for all cars (lap/pos, speed, throttle %, fuel, damage, etc.)
Click a car - edit stuff in tabs (Race / Timing / Controls / Flags / Tires / Aero...)
Write for one car or All to apply to everyone
Full struct browser if you want to poke around offsets/flags that aren’t fully identified yet
A couple warnings:
It’s a memory editor, so yes, you can break things if you go too hard
Avoid the replay feature while using, it can mess up the race state
If anyone wants to test, suggest offsets, or help identify unknown flags issues/PRs are welcome

Custom cockpits are not working for now. The cockpit we see in x86GP2 is an overlay of the game one, not the real game one.
I think some cockpits might kind of work, or part of them, but they would look weird because of that.

Hatcher said that was on his TO-DO list. Let's hope he can pull it out.

Re: Hello everyone

From my experience GP2 is a great game for playing full seasons. I dont remember I had any issues after editing. From this forum I know GP4 becomes very buggy for a lot people after editing because game freezes due to tracks changes. When changing tracks in first or second slot, everything works. From slot 3 it starts having issues. People solve it with saving. In GP3 there is similar issue people say but if you put new tracks where they should be put, than the game probably works fine. I just started with GP3 and GP4 and have no experience but read some threads here.

I was huge fan of GP2 but after trying GP3 and GP4 last week I am afraid I am not gonna play this game anymore. GP3 and GP4 are still Grand Prix games with very similar physics with GP2 but look so great and gameplay is better imo. Especially GP3 amazed me as it is more similar to GP2 than GP4 is and looks absolutely awesome. I plan to play GP3 on regular basis including Championship seasons (I hope its possible without any issues) and with GP4 i want to play just some tracks or full seasons in Non-Championship mode. But if you are happy with GP2, go with it, its extremely easy to edit and grandprix2.de is full of wisdom, even its not possible to register there right now you can read all the threads there.

The admins are aware of it but the whole email system is broken as a result. Unfortunately nothing can be done about it for now.

Its unfortunate timing given the unforeseen Renaissance of gp2, with the sad consequence of everyone flocking to discord (an awful closed platform) to share information, unfortunately that information remains enclosed in discords gulag where the general internet user can't access it. Such a shame as gp2de is the spiritual home of gp2 as we all know. Let's just hope it gets sorted sooner or later
