HAHAH brilliant read and pictures :)

Makes me so excited about getting this game - finally a racing game with MULTIPLAYER :) Hopefully I can get involved with it.

ATM, I have gotten a 1:14.46 as my best lap at Watkins Glen on the 2004 demo, this is probably really crap though, but I am playing with a pad and have only been playing for a few days (I think I got it on friday and haven't had much chance to play). Hopefully I will improve over time, esp when i get a wheel :)

Amusing write up :)

the GPL RANK benchmark time for Watkins glen is 1.06.9 i think :) and what car you using? the ferrari is the easiest to drive, the lotus the fastest but hard to drive.

Great Gallery Neil, as per usual, i think i did about 3 laps in this race :\

I'm using the lotus. Oversteery, eh, but you can sort of tell when it is going. My main problem seems to be the loop :D but for some reason locking brakes into corners in this game seems prefferable? :D I dunno I haven't really tried locking wheels, but did it once for an overtaking manouver and it seemd ok.

I tihnk a problem is knowing what speed to go into corners etc - but I need to improve everything really. A Wheel should make it 100 * more fun :)

How do penalties work? I stopped in the pits and it didn't do anything - it said "jump start penalty - WAIT" and then when I went a bit further the sign changed to knott - I waited anyway and it didn't change so i just got confused and restarted the race :D

With a pad you'll have braking and throttle assistance, so I doubt you'll have much control over whether you lock brakes or not.

Certainly with an analogue controller (joystick, wheel) you don't want to be locking brakes, or you'll be facing the wrong way, upside down, with 1 wheel left as your body gets rapidly frazzled.

No no no - my pad has two analogue sticks - One of which I use for steering, the other for accel/brake. I have turned all the assists off. If it was a digital pad, I may as well use the keyboard ;)

here it is:

edit - best is 1:12.89 in lotus now. Default setup for gpl 2004 demo

hmm I am not sure :D I don't try and lock my brakes, but it seems if I smoke the wheels a bit it slows me down more than normal? :D :D I don't deliberately do it though (only really if I'm scared that I'll die if I don't slow down :D)

Locking the wheels makes you slow down less. Try turning braking help on in the options if you haven't already. It will make you slower, but help you grasp the handling of the cars, and then you should be able to turn it off without any problems.

Usually you can get away with locking the inside wheel, just depending how deep into the corner you intend to go with the brakes.
