It's been 5 and half years since Vaderâ„¢ Trophy Racing closed the doors of its successful GTP endurance racing programme, but for one race only WE'RE BACK*!

There's been thoughts of a reunion race of some sort for a couple of months now, and as iRacing's Road Warrior Series kicks off with the Daytona 24 hours later today, we thought it the ideal opportunity to make it happen.

The race consists of:
    * HPD ARX-01c prototype (our chosen, particularly fragile torpedo)
    * Ruf RT 12R (a tweaked Porsche 911)
    * BMW Z4 GT3
    * McLaren MP4-12c GT3
    * Ford GT

We're all British for this race, as Neil Pearson's pedals are broken, Esben Tipple's too busy until the summer and Jannis Koopmann ran off years ago. No Ian Woollam or Dave Ellis** either, sadly. A four man, one car team consisting of Neil Stratton, Richard Dickson, Graham Bridgett and myself.

With Rich starting, I'm doing the second stint at around 2:40 to 3:30pm, and without our resident Aussie (Neil Pearson), I picked the loose straw and also get to do the graveyard stint at 1:30 to 3:10am, and then 5:40 to 6:30 am. If all goes to plan, Rich will be bringing across the line at 1pm on Sunday. All times GMT.

The race itself kicks off today at 1pm GMT, and I've set up a Twitch account to stream the bits where I'm awake (even when I'm not driving). For those interested in tuning in:

Team: Vader Trophy Racing
Time: 1pm start until around 5pm, then 1:30am until chequered flag (GMT)
Notes: Teamspeak on, language warning, British humour possible

iRacing's 24 Hour promo video:

* There may be other races if we felt this one was more fun than pain. ;)

** Some may have tuned in to our radio broadcast the last time we raced at Daytona, around 8 years ago. Dave and I shared a car, and together with our other car, spent the entire race taking the proverbial out of the newly formed and rubbish Russian 36 Team, who, it later turned out, had been listening to our radio all along...

So it was a DNF? I checked the lifetiming and couldn't spot Vader Trophy Racing quite early in the race.

That happened about 4 hours and 30 minutes from the finish. We spent 30 minutes in the pits getting repairs and came home 3rd, only because the 4th and 5th placed HPDs were around 40 laps behind us when it happened. We were a lap ahead of the 3rd placed car at the time of the incident, but by the end of the race we were 20 laps behind them due to the repairs and permanent damage caused (the car would only do 150mph after the repairs).

What annoyed us was that they refused tried to blame the Ford GT in front of them. They've not commented on the post I made in the iRacing forums. Accidents do happen but to try and put the blame on someone else isn't on.

The car that finished first had 8 drivers and finished with a perfect car. To finish the race completely undamaged after 24 hours is quite an achievement in itself and they deserved to win. I think they had the only perfect car in our split. We've done it twice at Le Mans in the GTP series we used to race in, and its not easy to do.

The RaceSpot coverage was covering the top split only. Splits are decided on the average of the driver's iRating (and we haven't done an awful lot of iRacing). We didn't try to cheat the system by having only our top rated driver register (then have the other 3 drivers registering once the splits have been calculated) as some did. We just went in there with all 4 of us registered from the off, and our average placed us in split 4 (out of the 10 splits, each with at least 40 cars).

The result (need to have an iRacing registration), or screenshot here.

There were 1800 registered people driving 409 cars across all the splits yesterday. :o

Ah, ok. I was wondering because you were on the live timing page before race start. Anyway, 3rd is not too bad so congrats on that result (Y)
