Hi,

My first post on this great site !
Just posting this so it might help others.

Since I really am a flightsimulation fanatic (since 1995), I bought a new PC last year to finally be able to run FSX as it should run.
Main specs:
- Intel Core i5 @4500 Mhz
- Asus 560 ti videocard
- Windows7 Professional - 64bit

After tweaking this for a few months, I went though my old game collection and found my GP4 CD again (hadn't played it for years).
Not sure if it would run on Window7, I found this site with all this great info.

After installing it (fresh install from original GP4 CD, plus the upgrade to V1.02), I kept getting a black screen after loading the game everytime.
Exact effect: after the CD check, the monitor switched to 1024*768 resolution, and then nothing anymore. Had to kill it via Task Manager.
Tried everything, including various compatibility modes, but no luck.
(note: the file f1config.cfg WAS updated everytime, so something did work).

I almost gave up, untill I installed the no-CD version (V1.02) of GP4.exe, running in XP: problem gone
Runs perfectly now, so it probably has something to do with the builtin CD check.

If anyone is interrested in the videocard settings I use, I can post them here.
Futher tips:
- Don't install the game in the suggested Windows Progams file folder, but somewhere else (because of protection issues).
- No need to install the included DirectX 8.1 on the CD; doesn't do anything anyway.

About the controllers I use to play GP4:
Since my old Logitech Formula Force racing wheel doesn't run in Windows7-64bit anymore (no compatible driver available), I use my flightsim yoke for steering, and seperate rudder pedals controller (left toebrake = Brakes, right toebrake = Accellerator).
With some tweaking of the sensitivity settings in GP4, this gives quite a good "feel". Much better then a joystick anyway.

GP4 still seems very lively, given all the addons available.
Quite surprising for a 10 year old game.
So this is my next project :)

Do What I did - download the 64 Bit Win7 Logitech Gaming Software for the G27 - works perfectly for my Logitech Formula Vibration Feedback.

Hi!

I have the the following problem...
I installed the game succesfully (Win7 x64 Prof)
I am able to start in XP SP2 compatibility mod...
BUT
The game used to frozen in completely random time... sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after more than 2 hours....
I get a windows message, that the program stopped the communication with win7, so it closed (Sorry, if I dont use the proper english terminology)
I can see the event in the evetviewer, in the application subfolder...

So it is Application error

always when a PC crashes or freezes because there is some kind of problem in the RAM memory or video memory ... overclock any component ... overheating ... computer viruses.

1) in the main tab of the tool GPxPatch in field CPU ... switch to "0" instead of "2"

2) and run in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 2

What kind of partition do you mean?

I run gp4 in common way... no special setting... Double clik, on the exe file :)

Of course the compatibility mod is set to Xp and the run as admin is checked...

The error log states that an attempt was made to run GP4 in DOS mode. GP4.exe tried to access virtual memory that was not assigned and that looks like where it fell in a heap. I'd post that log onto SDI's forum. Do a google on SDI's forum. He' on this site, but as this is not an error log topic, Rene might not see it.
