Hi Tom,

for the next competition just a quick idea:

To have a mixed field of cars and not only Mercedes, you should think about having an equal Performance for all cars?!
So one can drive an Force India without being at the back of the field?!

Yeh I've thought about that, but if every car is equal what's the difference to everyone being in a Merc? Maybe we can have some kind of benefit to choosing a lesser car?

Anyway, I need to complete the server move first (next weekend hopefully) and get the back end organised. And then I need to finish the first build of the 2015 Mod.

Busy times!

Here's some, silly as some of them they may be.

* If you drive a Caterham, every Merc you beat gets you an extra point-and-a-half, if you drive a Sauber you get an extra point for every Merc you beat, if you drive a Ferrari you get an extra half-point, extra quarter for Williams/Red Bull etc.
* Minimum rear wing level/Fixed gear ratios on the Mercedes?
* Maybe even some tracks that minimise the Merc advantage? From memory, my Monaco times in a Red Bull were about the same as with the Merc.
* And, this is probably the wackiest of the suggestions, but it could provide some interesting results; Randomly (From a formula with the result determined by a couple of things) allocate the cars a person is allowed to choose from each round.

Yep all good suggestions. At least this year the Ferrari is a close match for the Mercs so people might choose that.

It'll be nice to drive as Kimi and have a chance of winning again!

And, though I know I said it's a bit silly, I decided to throw together a rough formula for random-ish car allocation.
(It was either do this or work on an assignment I have, which I don't want to do.)

x = Points scored as percentage of maximum so far. (i.e. Won 2 races, scored none in third, 66% of points)
y = Position in championship.
n = Participation percentage.
t = Random number between 0 & 10 inclusive.

x*y+(n*2)+(t*(11-y))

Example 1:

100% of points, run in all races, random number = 6

100*1+(100*2)+(6*(11-1))
=
100+200+(6*10)
=
360.

Example 2:

75% of points, run in all races, 1st in championship, random number = 8

75*1+(100*2)+(8*(11-1))
=
75+200+(8*10)
=
355

Example 3:

Same as Ex. 2, except run in only 75% of races.

75*1+(75*2)+(8*(11-1))
=
75+150+(8*10)
=
305

Example 4:

Scored 2% of points, ran in all races, 8th in championship, random number = 10

2*1+(100*2)+(10*(11-8))
=
3+200+(10*3)
=
233

The car handing out system could then work something like this (2015):

For each round, the driver with the highest score would have to choose from – let us say – the McLaren or Manor.
If the person with the second highest score was within 10 points of the person who had the highest, so would they, otherwise they'd choose from what was mutually agreed to be the next worst car or cars.
The rest would depend on the number of drivers, but eventually you'd reach the point of the lowest scorers driving the Mercedes; With that formula, 9 times out of 10, the lowest scores will belong to the people lowest in the championship.

Potential issue(s):
- I don't know how hard this would be to automate.

Except now I have to do that assignment, as I'm out of things to procrastinate on!

Hey Doug,

I like the Basic idea, that Drivers can choose from cars depending on their Position in the Championship-table.

So the competition should get harder :-)

Here's an idea that might be easier to handle - that doesn't mean that your idea with the formula is not good!!! Question is, is it realizable?!

For the first competition, all drivers may choose the car they like.
For the second competition, the 2 drivers from the bottom of the table again have a free choice.
The next 2 drivers may choose the car except the strongest cars (Mercedes)
The next 2 drivers choose except the 2 strongest cars (Mercedes and Ferrari) and so on...

For Example:
1st competition has 8 challengers.
So for the 2nd competition drivers on Position 7 and 8 can choose free from all cars.
The drivers on Position 5 and 6 can choose from the cars except Mercedes etc.

There's a lot to think about I guess but I'm sure we'll find a good solution that everyone is happy with!

@Tom: If you Need any help with the new competition, your Website or anything else feel free to let me know! Got some free time in the Office ;-)

Greetings to all, I'm new to this wonderful forum

is a sadness and a real regret, that a site can have these problems and we hope should not disappear for; as they are a true fan of gp4central; navigating I found this site by coincidentally:

[f1gp4.gr.gp]

I will take no responsibility on this site and also party involved, and even the content that owns, is by chance to have found this.

So an update on the site: it's pretty much ready to go back online, except for one small snag - the file downloads are not transfered to the new server yet... That's thanks to my crappy old host not allowing SFTP connections (wtf?!).

So we should be back up and running later today but the files might not be ready for another few days. So in the meantime if you need a file, just ask here.
