GP4 performance editor Released (Rapidshare & Megaupload)

Hi all, I'm writing a performance files editor. Initially I wanted something fairly trivial for myself, but it got bigger and bigger and I will post it somewhere in case anyone is interested to use it. I'll have it in a few days.

Looks great!

If you could incorporate the laptime prediction feature that is part of TeamEditor, it would be even better!

There is already a lap predictor, and I have to say it works quite nicely...
In this graph, left column are GP4 real times, right column are the predicted values with the tool using the same performance file (the top value is the same as I need a reference, the pole sitter).

Maybe this is silly perhaps what im going to ask.

But how your able to predict a time lap ?
Where do you get the information of the track lenght and the physics?
I know with the perf files you can control bhp and the stengh of
the CC cars but its not all what it takes..

There is no magic on that. I'm not predicting the exact time a driver will get in a certain track. As I said, I only obtain the relation between driver performances, that's why the top time is exactly the same, because it is the reference. From that point I get, I get f.e. 1.00000 (top), 1.0012321, 1.0014326, 1.0017685, etc... so I just multiply the provided value for each one and I get those times.

This is just a fairly simple statistical analysis and adjustment. Other parameters (like physics) didn't have a significant effect on those times as they are common to all cars. And honestly it was hardly noticeable if the variation of times was caused by another effect more than by the very statistical fluctuation itself.

Hey Ali, This looks great :).

I did a very similar thing a few years back regarding laptime prediction using relative difference between the pole sitter, wasn't every really polished but it did the job for me and my Silverstone perfs.

Any chance we will get the source code, I would't mind having a look purely out of interest :) ?

Keep up the great work lovely tool.
Regards
Wills

Hey Ali, nice work, very clever and well done.
It is a separate program, or independent.
Using the CSM is to copy the data generated and insert them in the performance figures??
Or is it necessary to do this?? It's automatic.

It will be a java program (not common in GP4, but it is independent as it only reads performance files and does not deal with gp4.exe at all), has some features to modify and test data and finally it saves the performance file as it originally was, a txt file. So no fancy stuff with dll or anything similar. The main point was to generate performance files with some expected behavior once in game. You can use the file as they were used before.

Yep looks great. Ali, check out Substance look and feel, it's a great L&F and you can make your app look a little different, really easy to use too and hundreds of default colour schemes. [substance.dev.java.net]

Java is a great language to develop such an app. I did my custom grid tool in Java too

One thing always struck me with the AI performance in GP4 values. Ok so the performance value sets the AI ability the bigger the number the faster AI is. But what about ability range? Is it a value to randomize performance? Positive values do what? And what about negative values? Can someone clear this for me?

I hope you find it useful.

It is excellent, thanks! :)

The only bit of feedback is that it would be nice if the program could remember the last performance file you opened, instead of resorting to the 2007 performance file.
