Here is a recent f1graphics.cfg I have had good results with

As a background on my PC specs are as follows

CPU INTEL 1150 PENTIUM G3420 3.2 GHz
Ram 4 GB RAM COMPUTER PC DDR3/1600 G.SKILL Aegis
Display Card MSI Nvidia GT730-2gb DDR3
HardDrive 120GB Kingston Hyperx Fury SSD

Resolution 1680 x 1050

This cfg has been updated...I now prefer no bumpmapping & 1680x1050 resolution even though I can run 1920x1080
Th e1680x1050 is just more crisp

Also I should show the GP4 graphic menu settings I have & my Nividia card settings

Edit:Added bottom half of Nvidia setting not shown in 1st pic :)

Edit2 : have added new setting to bottom half of nvidia card
Increased Texture filtering Quality to High Quality....Great results with small hit to PO

Glad to do it Excalibur !

BTW here are two examples
the first is the 1st cfg with bump map track in cfg active
& less anisotropic

This one is the 2nd cfg with bump off as you can tell by the tarmac & more anisotropic

But in both cases the Nvidia settings remained the same only cfg swaps

Lastly the web uploads do not look as good as in the sim itself
although I do upload in png I see with the thumbnails I think
they still convert to jpg?

Reading back in this thread & trying a few different cfg's

I found iaquinta's cfg to be very nice
Thanks

Also not sure if mentioned here but the one that comes with fsOnes 2009 mod is very good too.

I've uploaded a new version of the cfg, but I don't remember if I posted it here. Thanks, great to read that you liked my settings.

Pictures + Download: [forum.4racers.de]
or just download: [www8.zippyshare.com]

System:
Q6600; 4x 2,4 GHz
XFX Radeon HD 5870 1 GB
4 GB RAM

Installation:
Just copy the file into your main GP4 folder and overwrite the previous f1graphics.cfg after you have made a back-up.

Important note:
The resolution is set to 1680x1050 at the moment. If you are using another resolution, you need to open the file with the editor and change the second/third lines to the resolution you want to use.
1680 ; [RELEASE] Game 3D Horizontal Resolution
1050 ; [RELEASE] Game 3D Vertical Resolution

Thanks iaquinta will try it & I see already the 16 multisamples line ;-)
Also I had never tried the gaussiancubic texture settings very nice
like in your 1st cfg

Hey you know I have a question about resolution since you mentioned it

My native is 1920 x 1080 via HDMI cable

But sometimes I try other config & leave the 1680 x 1050

Of course it is slightly smaller than full screen .. just a little on each side

But for some reason while the sim looks basically the same....The Menus
at the start to change location.driver etc are very much sharper to my eyes

Would you happen to know why? I noticed it on both your & Fsone's cfg
But even with mine if I set to 1680 x 1050 those menus are much more
clear/crisp

Thanks for any info if you know why & thanks again for great cfg

Nice to read, I've updated my setup too and am now using the resolution as you. Never saw this small detail you mentioned here, nice catch there! Maybe it's some kind of issue based on stretching the resolution? I don't really know. I need to install the game again sometimes and try it out. Looking forward to read you opinion.

Hi,

Yes I cannot figure it out by my eyes tell me it is better
mainly in the menus but also I think the sim itself

I only happened on it because I like Fsone's 2009 mod so much & the quality has always been excellent
There I noticed in their Fsone 2009\Data\F1graphics section the resolutions they used
for their cfg's were
1024x768
1280x1084
1440x900
1680x1050

I am not sure if the reason was that was best in 2011 when Mod was released maybe 1920x1080 was not
popular yet or other reasons?
Perhaps Excalibur can explain?

But in any case I am running 1680x1050 in all my mods now & like it. Even if I am giving up a little screen width
it is really not noticeable.

My mind says 1920x1080 should be better......... but again my eyes say the 1680x1050 wins :-)

Will like to hear what you think too if you reinstall

Hi,
that's an interesting point I never figured out to be honest - great find so far. I'm interested if I have the same experience when I reinstall it. I knew many people with 1920x1080 capable computers and monitors back in 2011, I would say that shouldn't be the reason, but I'm interested in a statement from someone from the teams too! I will surely test this out and will ask some people about it...

Thanks again for this discussion, really enjoying it so far.

Thanks & yes very interesting & something I have been stumped on the last week
thinking about

I will post back anything else I find

One thing i have also thought is it was the menus that 1st got my attention
as being much more crisp.
Then in Sim come to think of it things like def panel & HUD etc were better too.
So could be anything with fonts? Not sure
This week I played more with my cfg after seeing yours & will update soon

I axed the bump track option as while it looked good forward
the mirrors showed a bright washed out track
After seeing your mirror views looked so good I went back to not bump mapping the tracks

Also some tweaks to my card has really made some things pop
Like shadows etc are so crisp & show all in mirrors has great effect with no real PO hit

Here is an interesting compare
Fsones stock cfg which is one of my favorites does the McLaren in a chrome like finish

My cfg does it in like a Delorean gunmetal finish...Funny how cfg changes so many things. But on things like this metal finish you can see it more
so than painted cars. But they all look great :-)

Thanks again & will post back if I find anything. Hope to hear from Fsone too about their reasons for picking those resolutions

Nice work there on the cfg. Looking pretty good! The better mirror view really hits your PO. You could do even better with full graphics in mirrors, but that's nonsense. There is no really need for having full effects in the mirror. I once had a cfg with every thing maxed out, but the game was unplayable for me on my config. Maybe I have it somewhere. I will search it later this week. Really interesting topic for me. I like messing around with the cfg. Do you think there is a connection between the mirror view and bump mapping?

thanks you know how it goes we tweak this & that :-)

Actually right now I have show all objects set in GP4 menu & in my cfg
on mirror textures same as main view but again the Nvidia is set to override app so I am not sure as texture settings there are higher
2 ; [MIRROR VIEW] Texture filter quality (0 => none, 1 => point, 2 => bilinear, 3 => anisotropic, 4 => flatcubic, 5 => gaussiancubic) v3
1 ; [MIRROR VIEW] Texture filter quality for mipmaps - if any - (0 => none, 1 => point, 2 => bilinear, 3 => anisotropic, 4 => flatcubic/quincunx, 5 => gaussiancubic) v3
1 ; [MIRROR VIEW] Max anisotropic filtering (1 => off, to max 7) v2

But oddly enough while it looks great I have not had a big PO hit at all.

I only see 100 PO at a start sometimes but the majority of the time still 50% or less @ 50fps in cockpit or Tcam
TV camera views even less

On the mirror & bumpmap the only connection I saw was it made the mirror view of the track very washed out
no matter what settings I had in cfg or gp4 menu
It is quite beautiful now & couldn't help but notice today

Thanks again enjoy hearing your views too.
Midnight here so will check back
Thanks

This is what I meant about the shadows are really detailed now & crisp
As you can see also the PO rate is not bad with full mirrors ( all objects enabled)

Looking awesome, you're totally right! I guess it was related to my computer or something. Will try it out again.

What hardware do you have?

Thanks
You know it is not very high spec at all....
I just built it recently just to run this sim again after many years of not running
due to having gone to a laptop

I went this way because I was told by others GP4 cannot relly use many CPU threads etc
So this can be built probably for under $400 in most places
Here in Asia I paid about that equivalent for the parts including case & good power supply

CPU....INTEL 1150 PENTIUM G3420 3.2 GHz
MainBoard...1150 MSI H81M-E33
Ram....4 GB RAM COMPUTER PC DDR3/1600 G.SKILL Aegis
HardDrive ....120GB Kingston Hyperx Fury Solid State Drive
Display Card....MSI GT730-2gb DDR3 (Nvidia)
Case.....CASE COUGAR SOLUTION BLACK - 1202392108
Power Supply CORSAIR 500W (CX500M) 80+ BRONZE
DVD Drive ....Samsung 24x

Posted a few pics here too

I saw that screenshots already - nice work here on the cfg. Well, you've got the better RAM and Display Card, but that may not be the point. Will try it later on again. Have you tried my second version of the cfg already?

Oh wait a minute I did in fact try it & now after trying it again I see I had a copy in my folder named iq2

It is very good...slightly more PO hit than mine but not much.

The detail for instance looking at this one is excellent
The reflection in the helmet of the building is very clear & also the mountains are more clear than my similar shot
Also see the chain link fence? So clear no AA
(btw click this thumbnail a 2nd time to see original png image)

If you compare to mine you see yours is a bit better reflection wise & details on mountain etc I think?
They are quite close & probably down to my card taking control ? Not sure

But the only problem I have with yours & had it with mine before & do not recall how I
fixed it is the high reflection comes at a price of making the cockpit actively changing colors
I guess as it is reflecting whats going by outside?
Hard to capture it in a shot as it is constantly changing but here is one example you can see the glowing color differences?

Maybe it is the Dynamic vs static settings in GP4 environment maps graphics options?
Mine is set to dynamic

But yes your cfg does a great job & the mirrors as you can see are great too.
But there too due to the changing light/reflect intensity it makes them look chrome & alive or having a lit moving edge

It's hard to get a nice value for this effect as it depends on the alpha channels of each car. So normally you would have to tweak them to match the value in the cfg.

The strength is depending on this setting if I remember right (has been quite a while since I tweaked something in the cfg):
50 ; Environment map strength (0=>use game default)

Try to tweak it down to 25 or something and check if it makes it better.
