Computer restarting

Hello everyone,

My PC:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
4gig RAM at 533MHz
GeForce 8600GT
Asus P5N-E Mainboard
Windows XP Professional

Everything works fine with this PC except GrandPrix 4.
This Game won't work on this PC.

I installed Grand Prix 4, then GPxPatch 3.94, decryptedexe 1.02 and the GP4 Patch

I also installed new Tracks, such as Hockenheim2006 or something like this, and new Cars.

When I want to drive on new or old (standard) tracks my PC crashes. For just a little moment I can see the BlueScreen and then my PC restarts on his own.
The CPU-Mode in the GPxPatch stands on '0' and I also tried '1' with the same result.
What can I do?
There is no Debug-Report because the PC restarts, it is not just a Crash-To-Desktop.
If there is anything left I didn't tell you please let me know.
Thanks.

Re-install GP4 out of the box, test. Load the official patch, test. Then the decrypted exe, test. Then gpx_patch, test. Use CSM to get the updates.
Try running the executable in Win98 compatibility mode as well.

I did what you said.
Everthing works until I installed the gpxpatch. After that, it crashes.
But I will try running the executable in Win98 compatibility mode as well.
Thanks. I tell you if anything happens.

Hello to everyone,

mortal thank you very much. IT WORKS. I can't believe it.
To everyone who has the same or similar problem:
Do it like mortal said:
GP4 out of the box
official patch
decrypted exe
gpx_patch
and then csm
Test it after each step so that you can say when there is problem.

The most important point is: run the executable in Win98 compatibility mode!
In the end I can relax playing GP4 with everymod I want.
Thanks a lot mortal.

Your welcome, I think that info is in the GP4FAQ, I'll check that later, if not I'll link this thread. ;-)

Hi,

I did the same like curbsdriver did, but in my case it didn't work.
It keeps crashing.
I also used the compatibility mode and I tested it by starting with the csm.
So I took the Sakhir and the Hockenheim2006 tracks but it crashes with a short BlueScreen or in the second case with a short blackscreen and then my PC reboots.
Everything works until I installed the gpx_patch. After I that it crashes.
Is there any Idea left? Maybe I did not deinstall correctly? How do I do this? Is there anything in the registry?

Edit: I tried to start with gpx_patch but the track was not correct so I quit GP4 and then I got the window that told me that there was an error and that I can save the debug-report, so I have the gpx_load.txt
Would you like to see it?

I have exactly the same problem, and have tried all that was suggested above. Sometimes I will be able to run for a few laps before my computer restarts, but other times it is just when I am leaving the pits. Also, sometimes it just freezes after leaving the pits.

Any help would be great!

@mortal

I cant show u any screens since the PC restarts..... the problem is only in RACE........ free practise & qualifying works perfectly........ It seems when more cars r on screen the game crashes!!

Anyway I uninstalled GP4 with all the mods & reinstalled GP4 > updated with 9.6 patch & then played with the original wads but still the game would restart the PC with the blue screen....... so tht means there is no problem with all the mods tht r available.... problem is with GP4 original game!

Any help on this front is appreciated!!

Im sure its the ram your using on your pc.
Im also sure its incompatible with your motherboard.
Yes it can load games and surf net but when it requieres
to stay stable at high performance doesnt work and im sure
it will do it with any game you install and try to play in your pc.

I think this is a problem with gp4 (probably a track) as it tends to happen on new tracks I think :)

Firstly im pretty sure your CPU isn't a Intel Core 2 Duo E6600.

You mean Core 2 Quad.

Secondly, Disabled Automatic Restart under the system Failure section (Under System Properties->Advanced->Startup and Recovery on XP). Then When it crashes write down what the error says.

This will tell us exactly what the probably is, Its likely to be a Driver if its causing the PC to restart.
It could be Overheating of the GPU but there are no artifacts mentioned so Its unlikely.

Anyway try those suggestions and post the results.

Cheers

Wills

@jcaranti

The RAM i.e. 2GB@667MHz is perfectly compatible with my motherboard........ all games work perfectly on my system........ COD4, Crysis, Assassin Creed, BF2142 etc

GP4 isnt an high performance oriented game like Crysis.......

@Willb

I will try disabling Automatic Restart and report the progress accordingly...

Hello,

I think I pointed the problem out.
In my case the problem is the cars.wad
I tested my game with everything I told before. Then I installed one new car and the game crashes.
Now I took the original and I can do everything.
Now the next problem is the following. The data from the car is ok, because I use it with no problems on another PC.
How can I get new cars without editing the cars.wad?? Is it possible?
