Hi all,

I first got into GP4 because of the wonderful things I was hearing about the AI. Recently though, I have been playing GP4 and have noticed a lack of overtakes.

I was racing China using Tom's 2014 mod, the track was from GP4 Forever (it's the new 2015 China release) together with Tom's Magic Data included in the mod. The CC line seemed to mean I was always quicker than the Ai off the corner before the huge back straight and therefore the Ai never looked to overtake. Also it seemed like when I passed a car, it was far easier to pull away than when I was trying to catch them. It is like the Ai drop off the pace when I pass them.

I first thought of the Slip stream effect, but I'm pretty sure I have this disabled for player and Ai (Is there a way to check?) Could this just be a China issue? I'm just all a bit confused about how I should find a difficulty level that suits me for a particular mod and from track to track. There seems to be huge variation in the difficulty and I want to get something that makes the best of the Ai which I have heard such good things about. Currently it seems that I am either chasing and catching or the Ai only ever overtake me if I make a mistake, this doesn't seem like the Ai I have heard so much about.

To try and rectify finding a good difficulty I have played around with the CC power & CC grip values, but I just don't know what these values should be, how to find a starting point or what the ratio should be between each. I often notice upping one means the Ai pull away out of corners, but I catch up loads under braking, creating a yo-yo effect.

Please help me make the most of GP4's legendary Ai...Thank you

You could do like I do mate, wich is do a lap or few laps around a track finding out wich is your time limit and your top speed, after that saying that I example my best time on china is 36.5 I play with grip factor value from tsm wich affect ai raise that number and keep, try until you get around 0.50 or 100 of sec slower than your best time, than if your top speed was a way too high than ai play again with tsm by increasing the gears length and the power factor that again affect only ai,once ai is a bit faster or same speed,as you you can enjoy a very realistic weekend, remember thou that ai will be super fast in practise 1 and 2 because they always go out on new fresh set if tyres, then in qualy it's quite easy to beat them because they only do one flying lap, when ai always gets the best time on the second lap, then in race in the first stints they will be quite fast and you will be able to overtake and enjoy your self, but then in the last part of the race ai always tend to be slow I think it's because they've used all the tyres during the weekend and their tyres have got a lot of laps on,but I always do all the practises in weekend so if you do straight qualy and then race you might be ok,because ai will have at least 4 sets of fresh tyres, hope this will help

Greetings

I'm no expert on these things but can tell you what I do know. You can't turn off the slipstream effect for the player, only the AI. That explains why it's harder for you to catch them than pull away as you're in the dirty air. I remember in the 2005 mod it was so bad you couldn't run within 1sec of the car in front, you just had no grip.

The higher the value of CC grip the faster they go around corners, I generally try to run my AI at max 16250 for my abilities, I do notice quite a few mods come out with higher figures, over 17000 for example. The power will have the obvious effect of better acceleration and top speed.

As for the track, the CC line could have a slight kink in it which would slow the AI down a bit, but not sure.

In general though the AI is better than other games in terms of defending and being intelligent as such. If you play the modern F1 games or games like rFactor they don't really defend their positions unless you are creeping up to them on a straight, and even then it's random if they defend or not.

Thanks guys

Do the Ai in your opinion overtake a good amount and try moves?

Also, I have the option to select slipstream for disabled, player only and both...I guessed that meant I could turn the slipstream off for me also?

I read that the CC power in Magic data effects both player and Ai, but the CC grip is just the Ai. What other values should I look to use to give the best possible chance of the Ai making overtakes on me?

when I am in doubt about the performance , use these values to see where I fit in , usually use one or two values that reach up to look good hard :) try this .

This is excellent feedback, thank you.

You're right about the inconsistency in difficulty. It's something I discovered a little about when we did a round at Mexico for the GP4CC (long story, can't be bothered explaining it all here, it's to do with altitude). Here is the Magic Data from the upcoming Release 4 of the 2014 Mod, which should help to make things a little more consistent with regards to difficulty from track to track.

Secondly, the CC-line at Shanghai is probably one of the most difficult for track builders to get right - the AI are (as you say) great in GP4 - but long non-constant-radius corners are a weakness, and Shanghai has bloody loads of them, including the important one on to the back straight. Anyway, I had a play with it, try this version and see if it helps you.

Thanks Tom, I'll give it all a go when I get time and report back.

How do I import the CC line file you uploaded into a .dat file?

Import the cc line using GP4 Builder. It's an option under File - Import - CCLine.
