GP4 won't start under Win 7 64bit [New Crash Log]

Hi Guys,

I'm ready to jump out of the window.

I installed GP4 by scratch on my Win7 64 bit PC a while ago and wanted to play the original Version. I installed everything properly incl. the 9.6 Patch and the decrypted GP4.exe

Unfortunately the Game crashes a lot of times and this drives me crazy because I can not run a proper Championship like this..

GPX Patch was tested with CPU=All and CPU=0. Verbosity is set to Medium and I run the Game under WinXP Service Pack 2 and as an Administrator.

Here is the Logfile: [pastebin.com]

I don't run the Game on a Notebook and the Graphic Card is working nice with other Games.

Does any of you Guys know what causes the Problem? Your Help will be highly appreciated.

Many Greetings

It will run on W7 64bit. Install to root dir, not program files x86. (C:/Grandprix4/) Install gpx_patch, set cpu to all and test, if it fails, try 0. Set verbosity to medium and to output a crash log. You can post your crash log into a new topic, just add crash log to the header. Set gp4.exe to run in winxp sp2 or 3 compatibility and to run as admin. Test and report back. Also take a look at the sticky topic FAQ.

Thank you for your Response. I will try that.

I remember I installed GP4 a couple of weeks on my Desktop, but the result was the same. I never tried to install it on the Root Directory.

Do I really have to install GPXPatch?

If yes, will the Game run differently as if GPXPatch was not installed?

Many Greetings

gpx_patch is a must have. I'd go so far as to say it is a requirement, given what it does to and for gameplay. The ability to control cpu and the error log output is a must have. The error log can pinpoint the cause of the CTD.

Thank you for the Info.

But will it affect the Gameplay of the original Version?

If you turn off each extension in the first tab then it shouldn't affect the gameplay.

I did everything you wrote (CPU was set to "All";) and started the first Race of the Championship. After 18 Laps the Game crashed again. :-(

GPX didn't ask me if I want to see a crashlog. Is there any Option which I need to enable in order to see this log? I can not find anything.

The only Information I received was from Windows which showed following:
*******************************************
Name der fehlerhaften Anwendung: gp4.exe, Version: 0.0.0.0, Zeitstempel: 0x21544c66
Name des fehlerhaften Moduls: gp4.exe, Version: 0.0.0.0, Zeitstempel: 0x21544c66
Ausnahmecode: 0xc0000005
Fehleroffset: 0x001ad79a
ID des fehlerhaften Prozesses: 0x10a8
Startzeit der fehlerhaften Anwendung: 0x01d0b459086dc213
Pfad der fehlerhaften Anwendung: C:\GP4\gp4.exe
Pfad des fehlerhaften Moduls: C:\GP4\gp4.exe
Berichtskennung: 2a5e0920-2050-11e5-b2ba-901b0e3900c4
</Event>
*******************************************************

Now I will try it again with the Option (CPU set to "0";).

You have to enable debug mode on the first screen of GPxPatch to get a crash log.

The above crash happens when you have CPU set to "All".

OK. First Race completed. GP was running smoothly. I'm really happy, but I will be much happier if it continues like that.

I will keep you updated.

You can use pastebin.com and provide the direct link in your thread.
Please edit your first post topic header, add [New Crash Log] please. Are you by any chance using a laptop with integrated graphics? If so, the graphics chip could be overheating. That's just a guess. Once you have edited your topic header, others more knowledgable will see it.
Set the verbosity output to medium, front tab of gpx if not done already.

I changed the Topic Header and added the Crash Log to Pastebin.

Thank you for the Advice.

It crashes in DirectSound, so could be your sound driver. Setting compatibility to XP may help, but also consider updating your sound drivers.

René Smit, Independent Software Developer.
Download my GPx tools here.
Checked with Compatibility "XP with SP3" but with the same sad Result. It crashed. :-(

I will update the Sound Drivers but I don't have much Hope that this is the Solution.

Can anybody tell me why the Game doesn't crash if I play a Mod. For example 2009 by RSCT or any other Mod from GP4Central.
It never happened which is great but I really like to play the original Version from the Master and God "Geoff Crammond".

Any Help will be highly appreciated.

Many Greetings
Installed the latest Sound Drivers, but the Game still crashes.

I think there is no other Solution than to find install on my Spare-PC Win XP 32bit".

What a damn Shame.
