I have a crash to desktop every time I try to load my new track.

Also, a very strange thing that after some attempts I found an extra track sector in the DAT file - it didn't show up graphically, it was just on the list in the left tab. When I deleted it, the violation pop-up came up in GP4 Builder (1.912 XE, by the way) and it deleted the extra sector AND the last sector as well. Then I recreated the last sector.
When does it crash? As soon as you click "Drive"? At the loading screen? In the beginning, middle or end of the loading bar?

Beginning.

Since then, I narrowed it down to the game not liking section 50 of the CC-line for some reason - if I use a different curvature at that particular section, it loads successfully. Now I have to check if it accepts a reasonably ideal line there as well (last night I just threw whatever line that takes me through the corner).

Will come back to you and you guys, if I'll have the results.
I don't know if it is applicable here but don't forget to go into "Action\Fix cc-cars behaviour" after track layout was done and before any work on cc-line.
Also using latest GP4 Builder could help.

OK, it's solved - a different CC-line helped.

Just for the sake of clarity - if anybody bumps into a similar issue in the future - it actually crashed when I clicked 'Drive', sorry, I did not report well.

Later on in the layout (way past Section 50 of the CC-line), I got another issue with a very tight radius corner: the game didn't like a radius below 2500 when the track dropped away very severely in the middle of a hairpin. This is just food for thought - when the track is level, a radius as tight as 2200 might also go in some circumstances (e. g. in the Monaco 1967 track of Ginoblade, I think), but when it drops away it somehow needs a larger one (in my case 2500 was the minimum).

@Lo2k: So far, I didn't switch on aesthetical grounds mainly - I didn't like the grey CC-line in the previous version despite it being semi-transparent; it was a bit clutter-y for me, I used to know where to put the line anyway. It also blended in nicely with the sidelines when it was still white; I instantly knew if there was still room to move. Perhaps a white semi-transparent version would be the best of both worlds. Also, I didn't really like the new sector highlight feature, despite it being a lot cleaner in this case - again, I used to know which sector the previous version referred to. I also knew pretty much where the bugs were; after which sequence of commands the program used to crash, etc.

But I do find the new features of the elevation builder very useful indeed, so I might still do the switch soon.

That's hard to tell. Some value related to a length becomes zero and then it divides by it. Maybe you could take a look at the faulty ccline and see what was wrong with it.

@Lo2k: Wow, that looks cool. :-) As I said the main reason for it might be that with a white line it's easier to spot if you're touching the sidelines already or you can move inwards/outwards further.

I can arrange the material if you wish to investigate the matter, by the way, as SDI suggested. (I think I still got the faulty version of the DAT.)

The track in question being a street circuit means the walls are always extremely close, right by the edge of the road mostly with no banks whatsoever, I think the CTD belongs to the type where the AI just can't stay inside the physical barriers of the track. (I've already had a minor issue like this in the past, where I wanted to load a track with a completely messed up CC-line and it crashed - and subsequently the issue went away after I redesigned the CC-line.)

Very rarely. In real life, you can argue it's because they're more slippery, but here I doubt so, I don't know if they are made to be more slippery in GP4. I just like to have them as a last resort safety margin - I noticed the original tracks treated them like that as well. But otherwise, I like to max out corner radii and my practice is to align the CC-line as close to them as possible in the braking zones.

BTW, they could have made them more slippery in GP4 as they could have set them "hard surface" behaviour (I thought they did so) but I just checked and they used the "tarmac" behaviour. So sidelines react exactly the same as pure tarmac actualy.

Mid-corner, I also tend to keep at least a sideline-width away from the inner edge of the kerb (if I'm not using the kerb, then yes, I go as close as possible which means on the white line), while on the corner exits I think the most important thing is to avoid having a section the end of which faces "outwards" from the track+sideline+kerb combo, i. e. avoid having an unfinished ideal line through the corner basically - even the slightest bit matters (this is what leads to the AI slowing down abruptly near corner exits), so it's easier said than done.
