GPGSL Rd 8 European GP – Race Day

Part 1

Hello and welcome back to Donington Park, the venue for the 8th round of the GPGSL. We had the qualifying earlier on in the weekend in which we saw Ed Greenhalgh take pole ahead of Shadow’s Milos Ancevski. This should hopefully setup a fantastic battle between the two drivers to see who should ultimately potentially end up being the race winner. So, without further ado, let’s head trackside as the cars can be heard returning from their warmup lap and are about to take their grid positions.

Weather Report

Here we go. All the cars have lined up on the grid and we are set for a start. Greenhalgh is on pole, and has Ancevski alongside him. Meanwhile, both AMRs are directly behind on the second row and should pose a threat to the front row. Once the 5 lights go out, it’s go time.

They’re off! Ancevski looks to have made the better start and immediately challenges Greenhalgh for the early race lead.

However, it’s the MPR that takes the lead, leaving the Shadow in Elleker’s clutches.

At the rear, it seems both Kederer and De Bruyker lost out at the start, having lost a handful of positions.

Elleker will most likely want to make up for his error in the previous round that took him out of the running, but at the same time he needs to be cautious of who is near him.

It’s pretty close at the rear of the field.

Greenhalgh take the first fastest lap of the race.

Ancevski has lost time to Greenhalgh, but at least he is still close enough to take advantage should the MPR driver make a mistake.

As Gilson puts the pressure on Elleker, the timing shows that a yellow flag is out.

The replay shows why that is the case. Thomas had run wide, but it doesn’t seem like he did it on his own.

Legge is also off the track, so maybe it was the Snake driver that made contact with the Demon.

As the replay shows, that indeed does seem to be the case.

Kittleson had the best view of what happened.

Gilson is the meat of the AMR sandwich.

Legge has managed to get going again, but now sits in last position and will not be happy with what happened.

Another fastest lap for Greenhalgh.

There might be something wrong with Elleker’s AMR as Gilson has closed in even closer.

And that indeed seems to be the case. Whatever the problem is it has forced Elleker to pull off to the side. Meanwhile, the timing shows how the current top 10 has moved.

Elleker is the first retirement of the race due to a Puncture.

With Elleker now out, Ancevski won’t need to worry about what is going on behind him.

Again Greenhalgh takes the fastest lap.

Keranen is now running in 5th, and has a good chance to try and get by Maverick in the remaining AMR.

Out of the drivers who started outside the top 10, O’Brien has managed to have the better start.

Behind him, there is a battle between Kittleson and Jalving.

Jalving goes for a move up the inside into the chicane.

But couldn’t make it stick and ends up staying behind the Greidanus.

Further back, it looks like Thomas had been unsettled.

This seems to be why. He was battling with McCarthy, and was forced out wide allowing both Moinet and Rodriguez to close in on the Demon.

Rodriguez was able to get by.

Greenhalgh continues to stamp his authority on the race.

However, it’s the SCR of O’Brien that finally manages to go faster than the leading MPR.

With the race now 5 laps in, let’s take a look at the current standings.

Moinet is currently in 12th having started in 21st.

It’s still on between Jalving and Kittleson.

The fastest lap doesn’t stay for very long as Greenhalgh once again goes faster.

Nell, who is currently one of the contenders in the championship, currently sits in 13th. He won’t want to finish in that position as he won’t get any points, so will need to try and gain a few positions soon.

The same can be said for De Bruyker as he is also a contender, but being further back means more work for the One driver.

It looks like the top 2 are in a world of their own as there is no sign of 3rd place behind them.

Copeman has lost a few positions.

This could explain why. He got onto the grass, which unsettled him allowing both Kederer and Sanvitale to go by.

Are we going to see a tug of war for the fastest lap?

With Pedersen in 17th, this shows that the race isn’t going so well for MAC Racing.

As we focus in on Legge, we can see one of the Demons off the road, and it’s Nell.

The replay shows that he ran off on his own.

He gets back ontrack and gets to continue on, but will now need a miracle to help him keep hold of his championship position.

We have yet another car off the road, and this time it’s one of the JHRs.

It was McCarthy, who went off all on his own.

He manages to rejoin, but his top 10 position is now gone.

Despite the pace being shown, Greenhalgh can’t seem to put more distance between himself and Ancevski.

For the time being, Gilson is safely holding down 3rd.

Now Kederer wants a piece of the fastest lap.

Now the other Demon is off the road, and in the same place that Nell ran off before.

Like Nell, Thomas went in all on his own.

More cars are off. This time, it’s one of the Snakes and the Greidanus of Warrington.

It was Sanvitale in the second Snake, who ran off on his own.

He also got to see Warrington go off on his own.

Warrington manages to get going again, but the same can’t be said for Sanvitale.

Time for our first break of the coverage. We hope to be back soon.

Yeah decent start, car is working fine. Donington is a race of attrition and keeping on the track is what I'm aiming for.
Tough race for Daniel and Seb in the Demon Racing machines so far. But, we knew coming to Donnington, with the woeful weather expected, it was always going to be a lottery! Hopefully things turn our way as the race progresses....

One lost position for me, Jack out once more ... after this momentary high it seems we're currently not in form in the past two races. Hopefully I can bring, at least, P4 home.

sad to Jack dropping out on lap 3 but the race itself is massively entertaining

Nice work on the track Ruben :)

Can't remember if I've asked it before, but is it based on the layout of Nivelles?
