Until it started playing up on me, I was always using Fraps. If you remember last season when I ran the Malaysian GP, that was when it started playing up on me. I also use Msi Afterburner, however the auto screenshot function doesn't seem to work properly for me anymore so I only use it to take the screenshots of the tester's free practice and qualifying. For the race screens, I use Dxtory. If I knew how to use Dxtory's video capture mode, then I'd probably give video coverage a shot.

2 terabytes for 30 second video? You have some serious problems with whatever you're recording!
I record full 1.5 hour races with GP4 set basically as high as it will go and I only ever get to about 300GB for the whole thing. Bloated absolutely, but thats the price you pay for completely lossless footage. Plus Fraps does pictures which is pretty useful.
OBS and ffsplit are decent asides from the obvious compression, bandicam only allows for 10 minutes of video footage with the free version.
As for Dxtory i've used it a little bit, I can double check my settings and see if I can help. No promises though.

I might get spanked for asking this, but... wouldn't it be simpler to use the screenshot key from GPxPatch itself?
I know it's dumb, there must be some reason for it not being used by anybody, so in that case what is it?

FRAPS can be automatically set to take a screenshot every 1 second if desired, so you will just about always get a capture of any action on your screen. You just end up with a LOT of shots to sift through....
I expect/hope to be on annual leave from work in mid late January, so if the timing is right, will offer to RD a race then...

If using the GPxPatch screenshot key, the default is F11.

If using the GPxPatch screenshot key, the default is F11.

"2 Terabytes for 30 second video" is just to say that even a half minute video can be very heavy with Fraps.
Regarding Dxtory: The problem is that when it install it crashes.
OBS and FFSplit I've never heard about them and I cracked Bandicam
