This mod is fantastic first of all!

But I have a question about the sounds. How do I change a cars sounds to one of those downloaded from this very site.

I opened the mods files by double clicking it in the CSM menu

I found the folders data/sounds and saw Engine data and game_snd.bnk

I opened game_snd.bnk in sample editor and right clicked number 101 and loaded 101 from the toro rosso mod I had downloaded, then 111 etc etc.

Once all the wav files were loaded I closed sample editor, renamed the engine.txt file and copied this into the engine data folders for preset 1 2 3 etc etc.

When I load the game through csm, the sounds appear to not reflect those I loaded.

Am I loading the sounds correctly?

Thank you.

Your procedure sounds exactly as I wrote in the Readme, so I can't see what's wrong, but I don't know how CSM changes files and all that stuff, so hopefully somebody else has a clear answer :)

So I have a few questions about this same mod, so I will write them here.

The first is the one above about modding the sounds.

The second is about the performance files. Does performance change from race to race or is it just one generic performance file? Where are the others if there are multiple?

Can I use different performance files I have downloaded, or will this make the ai performance wrong because of the physics or whatever?

I notice I need to load tracks myself, where can I find these and how are they loaded in a csm mod?

Thanks in advance!

Make sure you have selected "Enable custom engine sounds" in the mod's configurables.

Why did you rename engine.txt, and what to?

Yes, I checked this and it is enabled.

It was named engine 12K and engine 15k. The read me said there were two files for those that change gear realistically and those that rev higher.

Hopefully you can help with my other questions also.

Basically I'm trying to load sounds, tracks and performance files into the CSM mod.

you have to copy both edited EngineData folder and game_snd.bnk file to \Data\Sounds\ folder of the mod, this is where CSM reads the sound from, which is defined in the .csm file in the section [Files]:

[Files]
Anim =Anim\anim.ini
Cars =Cars\cars.ini
Cockpit =
GpxPatch =
Helmets =Helmets\helmets.ini
Loadingscreens =Loadingscreens
Menu =Menu
Music =
Patch =
Pitbox =
Rims =Tyres\Rims
Sounds =Sounds
StWheels =
TeamArt =TeamArt\teamart.ini
Tracks =
etc...
(Tom I think he says he renamed engine.txt because if I´m not wrong Briere included two txt files with the sounds, one with 15.000 rpm and the other with 12.500 or so)

OK I understand. It sounds like you're doing it right. So, without editing anything, do the custom V6 sounds load if you select"Enable Custom Sounds" (see screenshot) in the Mod's Configurables section?

Yes the V6 sounds do work when I select the custom sounds option.

I thought the files were already in the data/sounds folder? When you say copy them into the mods folder, is this the folder accessed by double clicking the mod in the csm menu? Because this is where I am editing them anyway. Unless you mean copy them to my gp4 install data/sounds folder?

Each mod has its own folder in GPSAVES/Carsets of your main GP4 Install
For instance my 2014 GP4 Central V2 sounds lives here
C:\Program Files (x86)\Grand Prix 4\GPSAVES\Carsets\2014 Mod v2.0 by GP4 Central\Data\Sounds

Yes I have found the sounds folder, but when I edit the sound-bnk file using sampleeditor, the changes don't appear to work in the game.

Make sure that the path in the sample editor is correct. Even if you open a bnk file in a mod directory by double clicking, sample editor always opens the one you edited before (at least that's the case for me).

But is it the files in the mod I'm looking to root to and change or the identical folders in my go4 installation.

I'm not sure if I'm editing the sound wavs properly. I just right click on the file and click load wav, then root to the wav file in the downloaded mod folder. Sample editor then says updated at the top. But I don't save anything, because I don't see anywhere I can save, so I just close the sample editor.

This path needs to be checked. I for example double clicked the bnk file in my 2002 mod, but the file it opens is the one of my 97 mod, which I edited before.

It sounds like you're doing it correct, right click on the name, load wav, direct to the one you want to load, done. The bnk file you have to update is the one in the mod of course.

This one is baffling.
I have checked the path and it's correct, and I'm loading into the mod I think. I'm just confused by the gpsaves/carsets/2014 csm Tom path.

How do I know if I'm accessing the mod one or the one in my gp4 installation? Or are they the same! I just want to check I am accessing the mod sound folder not my install.

Tom this one is driving me crazy!

I have changed the files in the sound_bnk and the engine txt files. The path looks to be correct c:/infogrames/gp4/GPSAVES/Carsets/Your mod/Sound etc

I played the newly uploaded sounds and they are there. Checked custom sounds were on.

When in game it seems to be default sounds I am hearing. Is it possible the wav positions are different in your mod? I can't understand why I make a change, the sounds your originally had do change but the sounds appears default.

Any help is appreciated

Which sounds in particular do you want? Maybe someone can create a new game_snd.bnk file for you?

It's the Williams sounds (from the sound download section on this site) I want to use, by Briere.

If someone could make a file I would be grateful to give that a try.

Yes! it worked!

Thank you very much indeed. I know this is a lot to ask, but it would be a great help to me if you could provide the same thing for the some other teams?

I'm looking for

Force India,
Mercedes,
Ferrari,
Toro Rosso

Basically Briere's mods, ideally with Tom's external sounds?

I know it's asking for a lot, but it's solved my problem and I would love to drive with those mods.
