CSM issue installing mods

Hi all,

I have been using CSM to manage my mods for almost as long as it has been around, never had any real issues.
Yesterday I went to install a new mod and CSM froze.
It allowed me to choose the name I wanted for the mod, and then froze completely. I needed to use Task Manager to close it.
I then tried to install another mod I had downloaded a while ago, but was currently not installed - same result.
I uninstalled/reinstalled Zaz tools - same result.
I uninstalled Zaz tools and GP4, did the whole reinstall, patches, exes, the whole lot - same result, even with mods that once worked fine.
I've tried various compatibility modes on GP4 and CSM - same result.
FYI I'm using Windows 7, which I know has been problematic for some but has not previously given me any issues.

Hopefully someone out there can point me in the right direction!

CSM is working flawless in Windows 7 64 bit and upwards. Try installation in following order:
Grand Prix 4
Patch 9.6
Decrypted GP4.exe
GPxPatch
ZAZ tools + updates

That happened to me once but reinstalling mods fixed it.

But I was just wondering does your other Zaz Tool work?
Like Easy Wad for instance?

Reason I ask is sometimes that gets pooched for what ever reason & no matter
how many reinstall's I cannot get it going again until I delete this registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.wad

and delete the .wad folder. Could be something similar in your case? Maybe you need to search your reg for CSM
& clear it?

That aside I run CSM on W7 but have compatibility not even checked as Windows XP (service Pack 3 ) or run this program as Administrator
both I leave unchecked which is opposite of all my other GP4 type installs which I check both those things

Thanks for the replies. The other Zaz tools seem to be working fine.
I tried the registry thing but it hasn't helped.

I get the unable to retrieve list message on startup, the general consensus seems to be the solution is run GP4 once, load a track etc. I have done this and no change.
When I use task manager to close CSM after it freezes the window says CSMGUI126 has stopped responding. I have disabled auto update but it hasn't fixed the issue.

Any other ideas?

Have you seen this? Older but may help
Scroll down a bit on page 2 someone talking about same problem

Edit: Ooops I see you already unchecked auto update

Also what version are you using?
I use the 1.26 I downloaded from GP4Central here

I am using 1.26 also.
I tried the link at GP4Central, but it just says the file is corrupt and it won't open...

Also tried uninstalling ZaZ, running CCleaner and re-installing but still no luck.

I just tried downloading it 3.5mb opens fine
So I am thinking you might have a antivirus running?

If so turn it off as many have issues with a antivirus programs & Zaz Tools
For some reason the antivirus attacks it & removes needed files if I remember correctly

PS: See this recent thread someone had similar antivirus/CSM problems
