Regarding the F1 2014 technical regulations, it is forbidden to have 2 nose tips being part of the main structure (or a double nose, if you prefer) . Even if other teams have thought about Lotus's solution for aerodynamical reasons, they didn't find the solution, staying into the legality of the technical regulations..But Lotus solution is very ingenious, in order to get an overall aerodynamical effect with a little bit more obstruction which is transformed in a better airflow under the nose and chassis, using the tusks as vanes.To stay into the legality, this is the longer and bigger tusk (the right one) which is considered as being part of the main structure. the second one is just a part of the nose. This is the tip of the longer tusk which is considered as the nose tip of the car. So, this solution is legal and doesn't break the rules. In reality, this is not a double nose but a nose and an "appendice". This is why the nose is bigger than the sructural part, and also renforced for the crash tests
