Using Team Editor 3.5, I can choose in the teams-section between Bridgestone and Michelin tyres. But for the second team (Mclaren) there is a third option: Bridgestone, Michelin and Mclaren. What's the matter of this? Does Mclaren use an own slot for the tyres and is this then possible for the ten other teams as well?

McLaren had enkei rims back in 2001 and were the only team using those if I recall right.
The original game wanted to have the right rims for McLaren so they added a third category for tyres.
Bridgestone, Michelin and McLaren.. the McLaren option can only be used for.. you guessed it, McLaren.

What about adding a third category for the other ten teams? Is that possible someway?

I'm trying to drive with 4 different types of tyres (Bridgestone, Michelin, Goodyear and Pirelli), and now I have the bad suspicion that this is not possible. Please tell me that it is possible! :(

It must be possible someway I think. You can use 11 different car shapes, so you should also be able to use 11 different types of tyres. I will try something in the wad later, because I have an idea. :-)

And the McLaren sidewall files are linked to the Bridgestone treads

On TGF1DRIVER's request, I'm adding a feature to GPxPatch to support individual tread and wheel/rim textures for each car. Also, you will be able to set the arm and rim color for each car instead of each team.

Great news SDI.

Can the same be done for Helmet shapes.?
I mean to have more than 1 shape

It will be part of GPxSet, and the data will be read from the performance text file.

Helmet shapes: if there's currently only one helmet shape, then it will be quite hard. With the tyres and colors I could just extend the existing arrays and patch some code for the increased length.

super fantastic news René, as a long time tyre maker this will be a nice feature :)

Vesuvius, if you have a certain request then now it's the time to ask :) I can also prepare a beta version to test.

The *wheel*.tex files seem to be called "sidewalls"? I wasn't sure how to name it, but I can use the same terminology.

Also good news is that Lo2k is giving his full support with regard to Team Editor.

I just downloaded "Pirelli 2011 Tyres Pack Excalibur" and noticed it has different sidewalls for each tyre type. Does this mean there's a need for the sidewalls to be dependent on the tyre type? Are they really different in real F1 for example? If so, I can try to support specific ones for each tyre type, just like the treads.

yes sidewalls are currently different for every tyre type:

there are 4 types of dry tyres and 2 types of rain tyres,

Hard tyres =have orange striped tyrewalls
medium tyres= have white striped tyrewalls
soft tyres= have yellow striped tyrewalls
supersofts= have red striped tyrewalls

intermediates= have green striped tyrewalls
wets= have blue striped tyrewalls
