GPG Nations Cup Rd 6 Portuguese GP - Race Day

Part 3

Welcome back.

We find Silva and McGregor still locked in their own battle.

It would appear that Tung has managed to get by Ihara, which was missed by the cameras.

At least Ihara won’t need to worry about being attacked anytime soon.

Silva has finally managed to get by McGregor for 2nd. That move has certainly received a massive cheer from the crowd.

At the rear of the field, Kuei is trying for a pass on Taytoh.

Sadly, the Korean is unable to make the move stick, and Taytoh remains in front.

As we go onboard with Paddock, let’s take the chance to check out the current standings.

De Boer currently sits in 8th.

Kuei is still giving Taytoh a hard time.

She goes to the inside down the main straight.

But is still unable to get by the Ireland car.

Current championship leader Tafuro currently sits in 11th, one position shy of the points.

Back to the Kuei/Taytoh battle and it seems Kuei is going to try again to get by.

Once again, Taytoh still manages to hold onto his position.

De Boer has managed to get by Briere, and it seems the cameras have missed how it happened.

Are these two ever going to split from each other?

McGregor may soon have his hands full as it would appear that Nikolov is starting to close the gap.

Girard may be losing touch with Nikolov, but at least he has a decent gap between himself and Dixon.

It would seem the rear end of the top 10 is slowly turning into a 5 way battle behind De Boer.

Further back, Silvestre is doing his best to try and close in on Hatfield.

Meanwhile, as Kuei keeps the pressure on Taytoh, behind them Cremasco has slowly been closing in on the battle.

We have a yellow flag situation. What has happened this time?

This appears to be the reason. Taytoh has run off the road. But was it on his own? Or did he get hit from behind?

As the replay shows, Taytoh did it all on his own.

From Kuei’s view, it shows that Taytoh had run wide, which lead to the Ireland car spinning off.

Taytoh has managed to get going again, but he now sits in last place. This is not what the team would’ve wanted to happen in their last race.

McGregor’s split back to Nikolov has decreased once again.

And we can see just how close it is between the two.

As we enter lap 27, let’s check out the current standings.

Keranen could soon be under pressure from Domenech.

With Taytoh no longer holding Kuei back, the Korean is now able to push her car to the limits.

Nikolov is now close enough to try for a pass on McGregor down the main straight.

And the Bulgarian has done it. Nikolov is now up to 3rd.

Tung is doing well to keep in touch with Tafuro in the battle for 11th.

Further back, Silvestre has finally managed to get by Hatfield.

Back to the battle between Tafuro and Tung, and it seems the Chinese driver is now close enough to attempt a pass.

Tung makes the move stick heading into the first turn.

Ever since his earlier off, Frutiger-Fussli’s race has been quite uneventful.

Silva is still holding down 2nd.

It looks like Tung has found some pace, as he has managed to get closer to the back of the Monaco car.

Silvestre is trying for a pass on Domenech.

And he succeeds in making the move stick.

Tung is still in striking distance behind Grimaldi.

Tung gets a better run onto the main straight, and straight away goes up the inside of Grimaldi.

And the Chinese driver takes 10th away from Grimaldi.

Kuei has closed the distance between herself and Frutiger-Fussli, and could be in position to try for a passing move within a few laps.

Time for our last break now. We’ll find out who our winner will be when we return.

Team China

Cheng is showing some good pace. But we won't know the true pace until after the second round of stops have been finished.

Don't think we will get to the top 10 today, but we can still try to gain some places.

Now that's bad :(

Part 4

Welcome back for the final time.

We return from the break to find the pitlane about to get busy.

A lap later, the race leader comes in for his stop.

Paddock rejoins in 2nd behind McGregor, but the Australian will need to make his second stop at some point.

Tafuro and Grimaldi are both in for their stop.

Meanwhile, De Boer is trying for a pass on Keranen down the main straight.

Keranen can only watch on as De Boer, who is on fresher tyres, goes on by.

Domenech is in for his stop.

Also in for their stops are Frutiger-Fussli and Cremasco.

It seems Dixon is starting to struggle on his old tyres, and as a result Silva has managed to close in on the New Zealand car.

Tyres won’t be a problem anymore as Dixon comes in for his stop.

Tung has closed in on Aspenstrom, and is now attempting for a pass down the inside.

And the Chinese driver succeeds in making the pass stick.

Ihara is in for her stop.

Back with De Boer again, and he is now trying for a pass on Silvestre.

Dixon rejoins right in front of the two as De Boer succeeds in getting by.

Taytoh is in for his stop.

Kuei is looking for her chance to make a pass on Hatfield.

However, Hatfield succeeds in defending his position.

McGregor is in for his stop.

Also in is a bunch of drivers.

Tafuro has managed to get back in front of Tung as the Chinese driver rejoins the track in 10th.

Keranen and Silvestre have taken their stops.

Taytoh and Cremasco are in battle to decide who will get the wooden spoon.

And it seems Taytoh wins the battle.

With all pitstops now completed, let’s take a look at the current standings.

It would seem we have a battle for the lead between Paddock and Silva. Paddock has lead every lap so far, Silva has managed to close the gap. But who will be our winner?

Nikolov is now back in 4th, and could find himself under pressure from Girard if he can’t go quicker.

Tafuro is now back in the points, and is closing in on Dixon’s position.

He’s now close enough to the New Zealand car to try for a pass.

And the Italian has done it.

Aspenstrom has managed to get past Tung for the final points position.

Cremasco is in serious danger of going down a lap, but he is also the catalyst for the current battle between Paddock and Silva.

5 laps left to go.

Paddock looks to have been held up slightly by Cremasco, and Silva senses that it’s a good chance to try and take the lead.

Paddock finally gets by, and Silva soon follows.

The split between Silva and McGregor shows that the last few laps will remain a 2 way battle for the lead.

Silva has closed in onto the back of Paddock.

We have a yellow flag out.

And this looks to be the reason for it.

From what the replay shows, De Boer spun out on his own in a similar way to Taytoh’s earlier spin.

At least he is able to keep going, but has lost a lot of time.

We have a battle taking place between Taytoh and Frutiger-Fussli.

Unfortunately for the Irishman, Frutiger-Fussli was able to hold his position. Meanwhile, the timing shows how the current top 10 have moved since the start.

It’s still close between Paddock and Silva.

Nikolov has lost 4th to Girard. What has happened to the Bulgaria car since the last round of stops?

As we enter the final stages of the race, let’s check out the current standings.

Paddock takes the fastest lap.

Tafuro is doing the best he can to try and reel in De Boer.

Tafuro makes his move down the straight.

But is unable to get by.

Ihara might need to start watching her mirrors, as Grimaldi has closed in on the Japan car.

Silvestre and Kuei go side by side down the straight.

And it’s the San Marino driver who emerges in front.

Paddock has been truly dominate this weekend.

We have a very close battle taking place between Tafuro and Dixon down the main straight.

Briere has the best view of the battle.

Dixon has succeeded in getting past Tafuro, now Briere wants his chance to get by as well.

Kuei is in danger of losing another position as Domenech has drawn up alongside.

Paddock enters the final corner for the last time.

And crosses the line to win the Portuguese GP.

Silva finishes 2nd.

McGregor rounds off the podium in 3rd.

Nikolov gave it his all, but Girard was able to hold the Bulgarian back as they finish 4th and 5th.

It’s very close in the scramble for the final points positions.

De Boer just holds onto 6th ahead of Dixon.

Tafuro is able to hold off Aspenstrom to finish 9th, and Tung will be devastated to have missed out on scoring points.

Congratulations Dan Paddock and Team Great Britain, the winners of Rd 6. It was a dominating performance that lasted from start to finish, and not even a late race push from Silva could stop Paddock from claiming the victory. Well then, that concludes all the action from Portimao. We hope you enjoyed our coverage of the Portuguese GP, and we hope to see you back again when we bring you Rd 7 from Imola in San Marino. This is GPG Nations Cup, signing out from Portimao. Goodbye.

Fastest Laps

So close and yet so far... Congratulations to team Great Britain for is victory in our country.

It's amazing with full boost we manage to come 2nd but only with the 17th best lap overall.

-----------------------------------------------------

Humble pie tonight for the team, just didn't have the pace at all. We'll look it over, and make sure we are on the pace next time
Team China

We feel slightly disappointed to get so close to the points finish, only to finish 1 position shy of the points. Despite not being much of a threat, Cheng managed to show everyone that the China car still had great pace in it. Who knows where we could've ended up if the race had been a dry race. We'll look into the data and hopefully come up with the speed needed to try and get back into the championship battle in Imola. We'll see everyone there.

A huge win for Team GB, our first of the season.

What the hell happened at the end of the race though, we had a lead of 15 seconds slashed, then pulled out a gap of 10 seconds in just three laps.

Races: 163 - Wins: 23 - Pole Positions: 24 - Fastest Laps: 22
Season 9: Constructors' Champions
We managed to catch two points at least. Looking at the pace we had that's quite an achievement :)

My GPGSL Career
Damn, we hoped for a lot more than this, this is a terrible result for our championship campaign.
Dead last, Yay!!

Perfect! *Sarcastic*

Podium is ok

Not the pace with the rain. That was a whole can of boost wasted. Team manager Eric Moinet is not happy.
