Hello Guys,

I did something different ... maximum torque at 13500RPM's (311.07), about 847 BHP's to 15000RPM's (296.42) with the power decaying after 15000RPM's exactly as described in various documents (and studies) available there.

In my opinion, I do not think the mercedes engine has only 580 BHP's how it was informed by Mr. Lauda in this interview, he actually wanted to hide ... like everyone else here

Oooooh, guys, you'll love this...

Here's a picture of Cosworth's estimated torque of this year's V6s, ERS included. Obviously, they are out now, so this is still only an approximation, but I firmy believe it is the best one out there - we can safely think a relatively top-notch engine manufacturer, who did have to decide on this project, so they had to run these kind of simulations, can do this relatively easy task well.

Apparently, nobody ran full revs today. Rev limit was set to about 11,500 RPM

Yeap, but it's not that it's a strict rev limit, it's just that they don't have much more power available above that.

They'll go above that when in slipstream trying to make a pass.

I've been trying to change the torque curve to reflect what we saw in Melbourne, but I tried not to raise torque too much, using the graph made by Cosworth as reference. I also raised power values in the perf file

Peak torque is around 12,000 RPM, like Cosworth showed.

Quote

"[Team #08]
Name=Red Bull,Renault
Performance=840,840,12000
First Driver=1,Sebastian Vettel,15000,250,15000,250,DE
Second Driver=3,Daniel Ricciardo,16100,250,16100,250,AU"
(I'm still using 2001 order lol)

Actual power in practice is 818 bhp, 20 more than I had before with the base 2014 files.

Also, I've had a go at a realistic driving style, which means that I shifted at 12,000 RPM instead of going full revs near 15,000 RPM. (I also made engine.txt files accordingly for my sounds ;) ) The car felt very underpowered, I couldn't even reach 340 kph at Monza, an easy task with the files TomMK provided earlier in this thread. I also used actual onboard footage to make the gear ratios. I made a precise table with the speed reached at a given rev level on a given gear, and I managed to get within 2 kph on every gear (of course I made two setup files again to ensure 8th gear can be used properly on some tracks). My reference was a race onboard with Kevin Magnussen (I came close to writing Jan lol)

This video :

Car #22, driven by Jenson Button (McLaren - Mercedes)
Power: 798 BHP, weight 693 kg, fuel laps: 1.0
Fastest lap time: 1:24.580 pos 1 (split1 0:24.723, split2 0:53.039)
Top speed : 342 kph

Lap with new torque/gear ratio

Car #3, driven by Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull - Renault)
Power: 818 BHP, weight 694 kg, fuel laps: 1.5
Fastest lap time: 1:27.497 pos 1 (split1 0:25.643, split2 0:55.061)
Top speed : 335 kph

Here is the ini file to be used with Torque Editor : [www.mediafire.com]

Here are the gears I managed to figure out : 18, 27, 34, 43, 54, 63, 70, 76

All we need is a way to increase raw power without using 900+ bhp values in the perf file. As many know, I'm not a specialist of physics/performance (I've been using the same physics file for all my 2001-2013 seasons lol) but I think I got something more talented people can keep working with. Please tell me what you think.

Guys,

I am at loss here. Is there is there not already a beta version of the 2014 season for gp4? I've been haunting this thread, but I never see links. Am I blind or am I missing something?

You're not blind, 2014 for GP4 is a work in progress at the moment - hence this thread.

Firstly the rule changes this year are having a massive effect on the driving experience so there's more work than usual to update the physics, torque etc.

Secondly, last year I released 6 updates to the 2013 Mod on GP4 Central. That annihilated my bandwidth allowance. This year I'm going to take more time and release fewer updates.

I will release a 2014 Empty CSM template soon though.

I know this sounds immature but I coughed up my cuppa reading that!

In the end, I didn't get to try Celso's "Torque values" (;)) since I couldn't extrapolate the values I couldn't see next to the graph. But I had a go at a curve inspired by data of the 1987 Honda Turbo engine.

I was driving a monster ! Even in 4th (5th) gear, I could get wheelspin. Monza was a nightmare lol ;) Top speed was 318 kph at Melbourne (Real life best was 317 this year) and lap time was maybe too quick (1'30.3 with a huge mistake at Turn 1), but that can be solved with some tweaks to the perf file I guess.

Car #3, driven by Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull - Renault)
Power: 803 BHP, weight 692 kg, fuel laps: 0.6
Fastest lap time: 1:30.308 pos 1 (split1 0:30.639, split2 0:54.998)

That lap has been driven with 12,500 RPM max.

Sample video to come either tomorrow or next Monday, depending on how I spend the little free time I'm going to have from Thrusday to Sunday.

Here is a video from Sepang. There is some major understeer on turn-in and then overtsteer on corner exit, and even in the fast Turn 12 I managed to lose it because I was too enthusiastic :) Oh and sorry for my 14 month old son lol ;)

phantaman you car is a bit underweight for the 2014 rules :).

ah, really think you'll forget this detail? is that the creative process I test many ideas at the same time, when I returned from the theater already had a different idea and then ;-)

Car #19, driven by Felipe Massa (Williams - Mercedes)
Power: 819 BHP, weight 702 kg, fuel laps: 4.0
Lap time: 1:30.545 (split1 0:31.324, split2 0:55.562)

to get an idea, are in tests THREE different power torque curves... that you did, other (V8M) and finally another (V6TERS ... +-1026BHP's @ 15000RPM's)

Wow. My brain hurts from trying to interpret that lot. Nice find.

I'm surprised at their conclusion that the average power of the 2014 PUs is no more than low-700s bhp. Given the top speeds they are achieving on the long straights (i.e. greater than last year) I would have thought it must be more than that. Maybe the skinnier rear wings are making up for that?

Also, I would pick heads.
