Paperwork problems for Japanese squad

(GMM) Missing paperwork could lead to Toyota losing second place in the drivers' and constructors' F1 championships.

It is reported in the unpublished June edition of F1 Racing magazine that the Cologne based team did not have a valid national 2005 license - therefore an FIA superlicense - until last Sunday's Barcelona grand prix.

''This has now been resolved with the German authorities,'' team president John Howett confirmed, ''and the revised documents have now been submitted to the FIA.''

He added: ''This was a genuine administrative mistake.''

Although a heavy sanction, if any, is unlikely, the FIA said it is investigating the matter.

I don't think they'll be punished if they can prove it was just a mistake. They haven't gained nothing by doing it, and I think FIA will forgive them.

well theyve been doing a pretty good job at doing that so far this year...i dont see any dq's lol

by the way i was reading on the bbc that they havent had a valid superlicense for years not just 2005. not sure how this couldve happened. i also read that the fia might strip them of all their points so far in 2005. that would be a pretty absurd penalty indeed. toyota for me have been the most improved team of the year and i really hope they dont take this from the fia lieing down.

it's a mistake from FIA IMO, because they didn't check if they have all the papers at the start of the season

Makes you wonder if writing a random number into a field is enough to allow a team to run 4 races.

As much of a FIA's @#$%& up as Toyota's.

i dont think they'll have any pts deducted..that would be just ridiculous. maybe a fine or some sort. its like if if the police catches u on the road without ur license, obviously ur gonna be fined.

dont need your license on you here. Just need to produce it within 24 hrs of the pull over.

But..

So toyota has the Superlicense, but not the national? is that what your saying?

If so it is the FIA's Fault, for giving toyota the license to begin with.

The Flanker is gone. :(

i see. well i would think thats against the rules so yeah i dont see why dont deserve to be fined for that.

BTW this is the story on BBC.com

F1 Racing magazine claimed the team could be stripped of their points for the first four races of the season.

"The matter is under investigation," said an International Automobile Federation (FIA) spokesman.

Toyota motorsport president John Howett said it was a simple administrative error that had now been corrected.

"If they apply a sanction we have to accept it," said Howett.

"The FIA has the right to apply sanctions but I hope it will be commensurate with the size of the error. We have tried to be completely transparent.

"This has been blown out of proportion to what we see as an unintentional and fairly minor error relating to the paperwork."

Teams must have a competition licence issued by their national authority before they can get a super licence, which is issued by the FIA.

Howett said Toyota, currently second in the championship behind pace-setters Renault, had always had a super licence but had failed to renew their competition licence since 2000.

The matter came to light only when Toyota sought to appeal against a 25-second penalty for a pitstop offence by Ralf Schumacher at the San Marino Grand Prix.

"We haven't had a national licence, we can't deny that," said Howett. "It was a genuine error.

"We do apologise and feel extremely embarrassed but we understand the FIA are treating the matter sensibly," he added.

Howett said the paperwork had been put in order before the Spanish Grand Prix last weekend.

Toyota's Jarno Trulli has finished three races on the podium this season.

He took Toyota's first top three position in Malaysia in March when he came second and was also second in Bahrain and third in Spain.
