Merc - Consecutive Poles.

Merc's recent dominance had got me thinking last night, about how close they are coming to the Consecutive Pole Position (for Constructors) record.

And I couldn't believe it when I checked how dominant some cars were, and additionally how little dominance the 2000-2004 Ferrari's had in Qually - no fuel, flat out. Although of course Michelin and BMW had some advantages in that area that they didn't race.

I always find qually records interesting because I believe it shows, without the reliability and crashes you get in the racing who was quicker on raw speed (of course sometimes qually is wet/reliability hits/problems - people not nailing their lap etc) but it's the closest thing we have on record to showing who was where on pace at each weekend.

I shan't post the entire list but here's the consecutive pole record as it stands (top 10 or so) (Upto & Including Canada Q 2014), makes interesting reading, I was quite shocked.

24 Williams (GBR) 1992 French GP>1993 Japanese GP
17 McLaren (NZL) 1988 German GP>1989 German GP
16 Red Bull (AUT) 2010 Abu Dhabi GP>2011 Japanese GP
12 McLaren (NZL) 1989 Belgian GP>1990 Mexican GP
10 Lotus (GBR) 1967 Dutch GP>1968 South African GP
10 Williams (GBR) 1996 Belgian GP>1997 Spanish GP
9 Williams (GBR) 1987 Belgian GP>1987 Italian GP
9 McLaren (NZL) 1998 Australian GP>1998 British GP
8 Red Bull (AUT) 2013 Italian GP>2013 Brazilian GP
7 Ferrari (ITA) 1952 Belgian GP>1953 Argentine GP
7 Lotus (GBR) 1978 British GP>1978 Canadian GP
7 McLaren (NZL) 1988 Brazilian GP>1988 French GP
7 McLaren (NZL) 1990 Spanish GP>1991 Monaco GP
7 Ferrari (ITA) 2000 Italian GP>2001 Brazilian GP
7 Red Bull (AUT) 2010 Bahrain GP>2010 Turkish GP
7 Mercedes (GER) 2014 Australian GP>2014 Canadian GP

p.s. mods feel free to move this if need be.

One case to note is that if it were not for HAM in 2011 Korea, RB's streak would be in to the 20's (2010>2011).
