F@ck.... that is a full on neutering of an epic corner.

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.

well thanks for that...... that's beyond ridiculous... here's an idea to improve safety, have the drivers sit on the paddock and have them control the cars remotely.

Everybody Wins ;)

It was tarmaced after requests from the organisers of World Superbike.

As much as it is a shame to see the corner neutered it does come as a matter of safety.

it was a matter of time, how much time has passed since the last big changes to Monza, ten years? think this isn't worse than when they modified the lesmos anyway

Small bit of news. The old banking has been re-concreted.

Bit of a shame as I was looking forward to seeing it when I go to Monza for the first time next month.

I can only assume it has been done for structural reasons.

BREAKING NEWS MONACO

Hermann Tilke was supposedly hired by Monegasque Officials to modernize the GP-course of Monte Carlo to meet F1 standards. Rumors are that Monaco, sponsored by a Sheik of the UAE, provided Tilke with a nearly unlimited budget. Presumably his job is to broaden the track, bring run-off-zones to all key points of the track and rebuild the tunnle into two long straights with a hairpin between them, to favour overtaking in the otherwise dull racing in Monaco. It is unknown whether buildings like the Casino or the grand hotel will be affected but in a press release the Monegasques stated that the track would enjoy the highest priority, everything else could be subject to change to allow Tilke to fully realize his plan.

Approached upon the subject, Bernie Ecclestone made clear: "Let this be a statement for every Circuit that wants to host a Formula 1-race. NO track is ever going to have a safe place in the calendar, not even Monaco. What the Monegasques do right now is a first step in the right direction. However they must continue their good work and deliver, otherwise they will have to be worried about staying an F1-circuit."

The reactions of the teams and especially the drivers were surprisingly neutral. While being visibly unhappy with the latest decision, most drivers' declined to comment. Rumors claiming that FIA forbid the drivers and teams to voice their opinion weren't denied.

I'll believe it whe I see it on any news source, let alone a creditable one. In the meantime, I'll assume you got rather bored and decided to put some random **** you made up on this thread (N)

That's made up, dude. I thought that was kinda obvious ;-)
I just refuse putting "false news", "/sarcasm" or anything like that behind posts that are not serious.

So don't believe it. It's just what I think about the latest development that happened for tracks. Like those safety issues, structural problems, whatever. Monaco may or may not have few run-off-areas and no overtaking areas, so... :D
It's both bullshit, my post and what's done currently to improve safety / to artificially make more interesting races / whatever is wrong with F1.

on another note: i just got stunned by seeing that Alonso (and Ferrari) have only 2 Podiums since the season start.

If (and I know this may go too far) you assigned the Points System Prior 2003 (10;6;4;3;2;1), Alonso would have only 25 Points after 11 starts - and Kimi just 1.

Now, I remember how dismal Hakkinen's last season was (2001), but still, after 11 races he had 19 Points, which is not too far from alonso's total tally this season, and which included numerous Problems (5 DNFs from 11 races) that alonso does not suffer

There may be better examples for a comparison, but I just wanted to emphasize the ridiculity of Ferrari's current form. neither in 2005, nor in 1996 or even 1991 have Ferrari struggled that much (indeed their top Driver had few Points in 1991, but rather to lack of reliability than to pure Speed only). You have to look back to 1992 perhaps to see that Level of underperformance by one of the top Teams and no doubt the most legendary in the Sport.

As pointed out, the last time such Thing happened (with a WC-Driver in the Team) was 1991. And we know all too well how the relationship between this WC and Ferrari finished back then.

I would also be very interested to hear your opinion on Mattiaci. In my opinion he should look back at what Flavio and Jean Todt did in Benetton and Ferrari. Back in the mid 90's I was not so keen on F1 and could not really read or hear how jean todt managed the Situation at ferrari. Or how Briatore acted once he returned to benneton in the early 2000's?

In a basic sense Alonso isn't far away from Red Bull, so they're not doing a terrible job chassis wise, but they've got the same problem as Red Bull - a lack of power. Stick the Mercedes engine in either car and I reckon they'd be right up there challenging again.

Kimi has been woeful though. He was looking strong at Monaco until he and Chilton made contact under the safety car, but other than that he's been very, very disappointing.

So it looks like Lotterer has a 1-race deal in place for Caterham, maybe more if he pulls off a stonker of a drive ;) [www.auto-motor-und-sport.de]

EDIT: Some speculation on Twitter that the new parts aren't ready for this weekend (maybe haven't passed the crash test) and Caterham are trying to get some more money by selling Lotterer the seat this weekend until the parts are ready...

The team are a joke, I cannot even see him setting a time fast enough to start the race.

The guy has not tested the car, and Spa.

Its really not fair on him and hes a good driver.

He's a damm good driver.... But this is deep end stuff without a life jacket. I'm fearing a Badoer type fail... but having said that it'll make no difference because Caterham are at the back anyway.

But at least he has more experience of hybrid engine than the rest of the grid.

Lotterer's probably got more experience of Spa than any driver on the grid! Sure, he's got the car to get used to, but don't think he'll fail because he's known for being in endurance racing; he does Super Formula too, so he's got single-seater experience.

Hopefully he'll be okay, I'd love to see him surprise.

Slightly off topic but I thought Luca Badoer did ok considering he'd never even driven the 2009 Ferrari before and hadn't even raced properly for 10 years! Plus 2009 was the closest the grid has ever been, usually just a second covering first to last.
When he last raced if you were 2 seconds off pole you started in the top 10!
