It's been a fairly solid rumour for at least a couple of weeks, but Honda are to return to F1 in 2015, as a 'joint project' with McLaren. The greener technology is being given as the main reason for their change of heart. Jenson is reported to be pretty happy, and I guess he will likely be reunited with some of the people he previously worked with.

No comment from Marlboro, but it's a shame Vodafone are leaving at the end of the year - their corporate colours are, of course, red and white ;)

Yup, makes corporate sense in many ways for Honda and Button to renew their working relationship as he's still the most recent driver to have a Pole and Win with Honda power.

"McLaren Honda" Wow... I have rose tinted visions of a screaming V12 propelling a beautiful MP4/6 whilst it danced and sparked in the hands of an not insignificant Ayrton Senna. As imagery goes... it doesn't get much more iconic than that.

In reality the new partnership won't be quite like that. Honda's most recent foray in F1 can only really be described as largely unsuccessful both as a engine supplier and constructor. But it's still good news for McLaren who'll have free engines again.

Mine is the MP4/4, so at least I have a more accurate rose-tinted sound ;)

For the turbo charged era certainly ;)

It's just that my introduction to F1 was in 1991, and turbos had banned. Still had brilliant variation in engine sounds thought :D

Nah, I agree with Jim. The Honda V12 was in a league of its own - a unique and beautiful sound. (The Honda V10s McLaren used in 1989-1990 weren't bad either, mind.) The V6 doesn't sound distinctive at all to me.

Yeah, I can see your point there. I am far too young to have seen them at a track, but I do wonder if the turbo engines did sound distinct from one another.

So, the livery is really only silver now because of the Merc presence.

Honda's offical colours are red and white.

Conclusion: red and white Mclarens are coming back.

The official announcement screen just had a red "Mclaren" word on a white background.

In the voice of Mr. Burns.... excellent!

Ahh yes. However Whitmarsh has also talked of the possibility of McLaren's original corporate colours being used, orange.
