Well, in absence of a Williams even doing slightly well.... Go Kimi!

Andrew Benson really gets on my tits. Primarily because most of this forum could do his job (travelling to exotic and flamboyant and emerging countries, writing articles for the BBC, and when he's not too shy, very rarely answering calls from Radio 5 Live reporting on breaking news when Jennie Gow and James Allen are on holiday in a country where telephones are merely a device considered blasphemous) better than him.

According to our beloved Mr Benson, "Webber has had a tempestuous season". @#$%& off. As much as I'd love him to (because unlike 95% of the grid, he's as honest as the day comes), Webber is unlikely to win the World Championship... but 5% of the season cannot be described as "tempestuous". It can barely be described as part of "the season".

Even at an event where political arguments, unrest and occasional extreme violence cast an extremely long shadow over the sporting spectacle ("spectacle" being a loose term, this being Bahrain), and where articles can be written before even boarding the plane, Benson resorts to cheap and easy shots against one of the BBCs closest friends. Well played sir.

I wonder how much talent I, or my fellow forum members, will have to dispose of in order to travel the world to report on the world of F1 for our dear nation. What the @#$%& does he do? Seriously?

Completely agreed, gav. He's just another sensationalist motorsport hack that's struck lucky in working for the BBC.

Slightly off topic, GP2's resident nutcase Sergio Canamasas now sits at the back of the grid having tried to force Kevin Ceccon off the track in a manner similar to what Johnny Cecotto did to Sam Bird.

I'm fairly convinced that can write better and more meaningful "articles" even with third hand information than many of the hacks in actual print. Especially the tabloids who so very often copy n paste from the specialist magazines, and when they do actually write something by themselves you can tell it's from a intellect (or lack of it) that has minimal historical knowledge of the sport and even less insight into the various quirks.

Benson is annoying, because he knows naff all but pretends to be an expert, whilst the website itself is usually slow on the news and overly prone to nonsensical forum esque fluff from arm-chair viewers making comments but whom clearly have no idea what they're talking about.

GPG, remains one of the few good places on the net to discuss F1 because whist we might not all agree we all mostly have quite a deep knowledge and understanding of the sport. And it shows.

100% agree. We're hardly the busiest of sites, but what is posted is generally worthy of discussion. One of the few remaining old school forums. (H)

I was thinking the same thing just a few days ago. If I ever happen to take a look at a larger f1 forum, I always get a leaving present... a splitting headache. I'm so glad I came across this place all those years ago, when searching for a website to do with GP4 (that was far too high-spec to run on my pc at the time! I wanted to look at screenshots and read other peoples' stories about it, to feel like I was playing the game. I ended up buying GP2 at a car boot sale and playing that instead).

One of the wonderful things about small communities is that it's far more relaxed, like a trip down the pub with your mates, whereas most others seem to be more akin to the House of Commons on a Wednesday lunchtime...

While I don't browse this forum so much anymore, i do agree with the point of decent discussion, some of the larger forums just get over run by fan boys and deluded idiots. This forum seems to have generally neutral and fair viewpoint towards most drivers.

I also agree that Andrew Benson is an idiot, he can't even retweet on twitter properly. Most of BBC's team are a bit dense though, the amount of times I've spotted basic errors in their reports is ridiculous, and to think these people are probably paid 4x what i'm paid (i'd do it for free!).

Yeah, the core tv presentation of the tv feed, Dc, Edwards, Mckenzie, Anderson even Allen remains good. But the website is appalling. When I ever flick through the comments I feel like slashing my wrists.

What's with the sponsor that has replaced Vodafone on the Mclarens? I understand it's a one-off, but I don't know why they changed it.

As far as I know it is a Bahraini telecoms company owned by Vodafone which has just launched across the region.

So they've decided to promote it on the livery this weekend.

w00t! Britney pulled his finger out :-) excellent pole lap, twice. But that Merc is going backwards tomorrow although I'd love to be proved wrong.

It's quite an enticing top ten actually... Obviously Vettel and Alonso will be favourites to duke it out for the win but Massa could actually for once get mixed up in that fight considering he starts p4 on the harder tyres, I think that's a savvy strategy choice.

Disappointing lap for Kimi, but hopefully the race pace will be good so he ought to be able to mix it up and maybe still challenge for a podium.

Further down the grid, good job by the #BOTTAS I thought, Q2 and out qualified a Toro Rosso whilst that Williams is still basically simply off the pace.

High pressure on Gutierrez, BUT he was actually only about 3 tenths of the Hulk in Q1 and he didn't appear to do any qualify simulation this morning, just race prep. Ok, not great stuff by him but far from the shockingly epic fail it's been made out to be by all the pundits.

The Caterham upgrade seems to have delivered a useful boost to Pic's car, not sure how much of his 9 tenths over Bianchi were due to Maurussia's problems so far this weekend.

ross brawn could not have been more despondent/ downbeat/ underwhelmed/ unemotional/ unhappy that nico was 1st. Actually, when asked from the sky interviewer: "ross what a qualy. did you expect such a result", ross answered something in t he lines that lewis had had problems and thats why it he was slow; still, i didn't hear any complements coming from his mouth about nico. In contrast, brawn was so enthusiastic when hamilton got 3rd in malaysia. what a shame that nico (and lewis in fact too) are managed by such a biased man. Lewis is very likeable guy, but the tolerance brawn apparently gives to lewis is just unbearable.

graet job form the FI's too. However, I am not sure that Hulk could have brought the car even higher up the grid, if he were in the force india today.

Great work from Rosberg, certainly didn't expect that! Should be an interesting race, and I wonder whether Kimi's race pace will turn up tomorrow. The Force Indias have had very strong race pace so far this year but haven't really capitalised, so if they don't run each other off the track on Lap 1 they could be in for a very strong result. I'm not sure how Massa will go with his alternate strategy, but good on them for trying something different and it was a good idea with the grid penalties for Webber and Hamilton.

Interesting race so far, hoping Seb doesn't pull away too much.
That sucks about Fernando's wing! :-/

About as good a race as I can imagine Bahrain can give. Some great squabbling.

Shame for Massa with 1 delamination and one puncture. :(

No idea what caused Alonso's DRS failure, but well done to him to not go spinning wildly.

A 1 man race at the front, but thankfully the racing behind made up for it. :)

Brilliant race and like Gav said pretty much at the limit of what this circuit could probably offer.

Vettel simply in another league of his own today, I think he everything covered.

Good stuff by Toleman, they basically just ultilised the cars ability to nurse the tyres, same result as last year and a decent fighting drive without being a total idiot by Grosjean.

Excellent result for Di Resta, he drove a perfect race. He may well be gutted to miss out on the podium but he got as much as the car was able to offer and maybe slightly more. He was maybe slightly flattered by Ferrari's problems too. But this level of form from him is much more like it although he needs to keep it up and build on it.

Alonso, basically unlucky but drove like a boss to rescue some points. Shame for Massa but he was already unable to make a canny stragety work but he'd have scored points it wasn't for the punctures.

Excellent recovery drive by Hamilton, he came on very strong in the second half. Great entertainment by Britney but I feel he wasted the tyres too much as evidenced by his 4 stops.

Good result for Perez, he gave it a good go and ultimately out raced Button today whom I feel got caught up in the racing and took too much out of his tyres much like Rosberg. Brilliantly entertaining though.

Other notable performances, Maldonaldo in P11 almost as though it was the first time he's bothered turning up so far this season and Pic, best of the lower also rans by a country mile.

"LOL whats" awarded to Webber and Gutierrez.

Gutierrez is dreadful, isn't he? I know the Sauber's not as far up as last year's car, but he's just been either anonymous or awful.
