The German GP will be on July 7 at the Nurburgring, not July 14 at Hockenheimring. Just noticed that on Page 1! And a bit late mentioning it now... But meh :P

Sauber silent over Hülkenberg rumours
8 July 2013

Sauber is refusing to comment over rumours that Nico Hülkenberg, who finished tenth during last weekend's German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, has been released from his contract because the team is no longer able to pay his salary.

With the Hinwil-based outfit enduring severe financial issues, both parties are said to have cut their official ties as a result of missed contractual payments, meaning the German would be free to move to another team during the second half of the season.

"I cannot say anything about contractual matters," Hülkenberg told German television broacaster Sky. "Clearly, I must look after my future. We will see where it goes."

Hülkenberg has been linked to seats at Lotus, should Kimi Räikkönen move to Red Bull, and Ferrari – in place of Felipe Massa – next year. And with both teams yet to confirm their plans, he said: "I cannot exclude anything, nothing is impossible."

When contacted by GPUpdate.net, Sauber remained silent over the rumours. "We don't comment on contractual issues," explained a spokesperson for the team.

Ouch. I only heard at the weekend that Sauber in sufficient difficulties that they had apparently missed payments to Hulkenberg. Clearly they've been missing sponsors since BMW left, but I just thought maybe BMW were subsidising them to an extent and sponsors weren't necessarily needed.

If they can't pay current drivers, then you've got to wonder if they'll finish the season. It's a tidy, well-run team if someone is looking to join F1 in the near future.

I agree with you 100% Gav shame, I really hope they sort something out, would not want to see them go .................

Hopefully they'll work something out. I thought an upside of having Gutierrez in the team was his financial backing? If they're still struggling despite that then it really doesn't look good.

I've thought for a while that this year's Sauber looks amazingly similar to an HRT. How ironic that might end up being.

FOM could sure take a lesson or two from DTM. Their races, highlights and more and streamed and available as re-live on their own public youtube channel DTMInternational.

Thankfully, the team appears to have been saved (by the Russians) :)

At the expense of a seat of what will be a pay driver (though he may be decent if they don't rush him into it).

Edit: Not that Gutierrez isn't a pay driver, and while he's been distinctly averager so far, I feel he's got enough potential in him which might just about keep him in F1 on something near merit... so long as he can survive into a second and third season.

Yeah, there's been a lot of complaining around about Sirotkin, but he seems like a very capable driver. He's only 17, and he's sticking it to some of the more established opposition in FR3.5.

The only problem with him is experience...is it too much too young? A couple more seasons in the feeder formulae would certainly be a good idea.

Remind me... Algersuari (youngest to date) was 19 when he debuted? ;)

On another note, compare Ellinas' time (first time ever in an F1 car) to Chilton's!

Despite being younger when he entered F1, Alguersuari had bucket loads of racing experience compared to Kimi. Kimi had, what, 23 single-seater races before F1. Alguersuari had 124 according to Wikipedia.

Chilton's time was unrepresentative of what actually happened on the day, he was running the new Pirelli's and actually had an ECU problem which restricted his running.

You can read my report of the day here.

I also agree that Sirotkin is no where as near as useless as he's been made out to be.

He's 8th in what is a very strong FR3.5 field.

Montezemolo has gone on the record and slammed that Pirelli changed the construction of the tyres mid season. It seems to be a major cause of the extra drop of Ferrari, their recent failed aero updates not included. Well, I don't remembering him bitching about that, when JPM was robbed of the Championship by Ferrari, when they got the Michelins banned!

Sauber is not safe yet...

President Putin SIGN THE DAMN CONTRACTS :-(

The Real Story of the Race was that the Renault's fell apart and the Ferrari's didn't.
Rosberg headed for the sliproad and retired, probably because of Nicotin starvation they have still not given him a helmet with a little hole in it.

The entire deal is nothing more than to get Sirotkin in an F1 seat. As his dad's "backing" doesn't seem to have materialised, Sauber probably won't get any rubles any time soon.

Colin Kolles appears to be in line to take a portion of the team; you can say what you like about the man, but he knows how to keep a team afloat and make the best of a team's resources.

Sauber will need to get a move on soon as they reportedly owe €35 million to their suppliers.

Both Ferrari and Pirelli are yet to be paid.

He's also useful to have around if you happen to have a major toothache.
