Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying - Leon Castille

Welcome to sunny Spain and the first leg of the European tour. In the morning, with the addition Ocean and ART, Pre-Qualifying commenced to whittle the grid down to just 11 teams.

Sadly, new boys Ocean failed to make it, but ART just edged into the top 11. The other team knocked out were Arrows.

Now to the present, qualification. First out on track was the Sauber of Vettel

Sets a time in the high 1:24s. I wonder how quick that will be in the long run

Quicker than Heikki

Robbie Kerr gets his first taste of action and goes quickest

Sutil is just off that time

Raikkonen goes P1 with a very quick lap time

Star of the last race Trulli goes behind the Finn

Alonso shows us how to do it

His team mate ups the ante

Just about half way through, here is the top 8

3rd for Hamilton

Andy Carroll sets the 12th fastest time

Heidfeld nicks (get it?) into the top 6

He rounds off the qualifying session. Lets take a look down the grid for race day.

My tip, watch out for Jarno, I think he may do something good in the race.

Nice job, Gaulty!

WILLIAMS PRESS RELEASE

"For Team Williams, this was surely the best Qualifying of 2009. Nico in the Top 10, Giancarlo just outside it. I think we will have a good race. Both drivers should have the opportunity to take some points."

Just a note : If you want to change some things for French GP at Paris, do it! I will "lock" the race in about 2 hours

Toyota Press Release for Argentina Race and Spain Qualification

Argentina

A fantastic result for Mattias and Toyota. His first win in Formula one and Toyota's second in only 4 races! Fantastic. Trulli again with a DNF due to mechanical problems. We really need to check out his car before the next race.

Spain

A solid qualification for Jarno in P5. If he can keep his car intact he might make it onto the podium. P10 for Mattias is a little further down the list than we expected but never the less lots of chances for him to score points aswell.

Vodafone Mclaren Mercedes Press Release

We've locked out the second row so that's promising for the race

Think Ferrari have the legs of us here though to be honest, we'll have to see how we go in the race, reliability is going to be key

Red Bull Racing announcement

The team is extremely disappointed with their performance so far.
"We can't seem to approach the performance we expected before the first race." stated the team's driver Sébastien Buemi.
The team principal said in an interview that they are in a pessimistic mood and are angry that they are the only one team that haven't scored any points yet. "We all hope for better results in the future, but we are still pessimistic. For now all we want is to score a single point. Then we'll see what is going to happen after that."
FERRARI PRESS RELEASE:
The Team performance are good, but why the results are wrong ?
The Team looks to the next races, because, if the drivers aren't increase her performance , we want they are throw out.

Spanish Grand Prix Race - Leon Castille

Hello and welcome to Spain.

Its me in the commentry box once again, lone reporting for the FGPS this race. And whilst the big guns are elsewhere in Spain, many F1 fans have descended to watch the race.

ART are going to compete in their first race after surviving pre-qualifying, and line up 12th and 13th.

But the cars are ready, drivers roaring to go.

GO!

A Ferrari 1-2

Bit of drama near the back

One lap in and its Kubica-Alonso-Hamilton. Here's whats messing around behind them

Using every piece of the track

Trulli diving up the inside of Raikkonen

Vettel has stormed up the field

Pass by Massa

Car off!

Robbie Kerr packs up, bad debut for ART

Barrichello trying a RBR, Vettel seeing if he can take the pickings.

Hamilton looking at passing Trulli

Nice overtaking near the back

Heidfeld pushing Alonso to the limit

WOAH! A Honda has slammed into the wall

Don't expect any explanation. But lets look at some overtaking. Why. It seems to be Heidfeld overtaking Alonso

A heave of activity in the pits

Renault stops on track, they always seem to have problems when I'm here

Barrichello has a short journey this time

Alonso leading

Williams after BMW

Kubica fending off Raikkonen

Nice defending son

I don't like this

The BMW's are dropping like flies

The other Renault packs in. But thats not Fisichella

COLLISION

Massive. Just massive.

Upside down

And cos I'm creul

Mayhem now

In the sense that everyone is either blowing up of smashing off. Hamilton pits

Oh my God! Alonso is out.

Hamilton hunting down Kubica

The lone ART car

Right, Hamilton has already pitted and in comes Kubica

But Hamilton takes the lead

Carroll was running in the points, but the engine has given up

Awful debut for ART

Force India are 7th and 8th, no team orders here, battling out to be the best

Ekstrom flies past a struggling Red Bull

Not a day for engines, Buemi finds out

A MCLAREN HURTLING TOWARDS THE BARRIERS! But not a fret to the lead, Raikkonen loses third and retires

No trouble for Hamilton though

Hamilton wins in Spain!

Kubica finishes second, but who's managed to crop into third!

Final Results, I need sleep so I'm sure Flost will post up the tables soon.

What a thrilling race, we hope to see you again in two races time for the British Grand Prix. Bye

FORCE INDIA PRESS RELEASE
It's really great to see both drivers scoring points for the second race in a row. It was a special result for Adrian, who beat Nico for the first time this season. Anyway, the championship looks real good for us, and we are very excited for the next races.
